Post subject: bought it at an auction
PostPosted: Fri Aug 30, 2002 6:54 pm
Howdy folks,

This is my first post. Looks like a great, active, board.

I bought an 85 Dodge Ram with a 225 SL6. I'm amazed at how well it runs.

I have never been much of a mechanic but want to do most of the work on this truck myself. I'm looking forward talking it out on this board.

Any advice right off the bat, for do's and don'ts?

Thanks,
Patrick

Do change the oil and check the other fluids.
Don't worry about a good running Slant, they are pretty tough. If it is not broken, don't "fix" it applies.

Free flowing exhaust helps as well as a little richer air fuel mixture ratio but here again, if it's working well, just drive and enjoy it.

If you plan on keeping it, I'd look for an '85 Dodge Truck Service Manual.
I ordered a manual for my wife's LHS from the Daimler-Chrysler website awhile back. Hers was around a $100. I don't know how far back they go, from that source.

You can probably find a service manual for it on Ebay in the $10-20 range as long as you don't get caught up in a bidding war with someone else. I bought a new one for my 1987 Truck 7 years ago from Chrysler and it cost about $40 back then.
