I have a 66 dart with manual column shift. Is there suppose to be a gap between the shift collar and the turn signal collar?? I have been puzzling over this for the past two weeks.

I replaced the turn signal switch but do not remember if there was a gap between the collars originally. The shift column collar can slide up to fit snug but is then out of line with cut for shifting. There is about a 1/4" gap between them.

The reason I think they should be snug is because the turn signal collar is stepped in radius on the side where it meets the shift collar. So it looks like it should nest against it.

Could someone let me know if this is normal or if I am missing something in the reassembly.
