I separated the metal frame from the glass on the passenger rear quarter window on my 63 Signet.
What adhesive should I use to put it back together?

There is a thin sheet of rubber (butyl?) in the channel that the glass fits into.
I am thinking of leaving that in and gluing the glass to it. Maybe with urethane windshield adhesive?

Or should I carve the rubber sheet out and clean the metal surface and use some modern adhesive that will also fill the gap between the channel and the glass?

I just did this job on my 64 dart.. with the vent window and the drivets door window.

Dount use urethane or glue...or butyl stuff.

Get glass setting tape.

http://stores.restorationspecialties.co ... tting+tape

The stuff is cheap enough to get 5 feet of 3 different sizes.

Thats how its attached.

Cut off the excess after setting with a deadblow or rubber mallet.

Thanks. Do you remember the thickness you used on the main door glass?

No Not exactly, sorry.

I bought 3 thicknesses and used some on the window edge and then a different thickness on the bottom where the lift metal piece attaches into the roller and regulator mechanism. Also probably used a different thickness when I did the Vent window as well..

All of mine was trashed from being a southern car!

I recall reading somewhere someone saying that the tape/rubber can be "reset" with acetone or toluene, i.e. the glue will redissolve and the window will stick like new...this sounds awfully messy to me. The new tape sounds WAY BETTER!

I have to do this at some point, my crank mechanism on one of my rear quarter windows needed fixed and the window came loose from the rubber as well.

That's interesting.
But there are a few pieces that cracked off the old tape.

I have been wondering if a solvent could be used to help lubricate a new tape to help the glass set more easily.
