Hey Anyone/Everyone,

I have a 65 plymouth barracuda slant 6 225. I have a problem with my gas guage, and I dont know how to fix it. Is it a problem with the line, the floater, or the guage itself? How do I test these things? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

The first test is to disconnect the wire that goes into the fuel tank, then ground it to the chassis. (Use a jumper wire, make sure you get a good ground)
Turn the key on and the fuel gauge should "peg" on full. If the gauge does move when grounded, the problem is in the tank's sending unit.

If the gauge does not move, then leave the wire grounded and check for voltage up at the gauge itself. (Reach up under the dash with a test light)
Note: The fuel gauge operates off of 5-7 volts from the voltage limiter which "feeds" power to the fuel and the temp. gauge.
Does your car's temp gauge work?

I have the same problem on my '65 Dart. The gauge goes to "full" when grounded and it starts to work correctly after a 1 hour of run time on the car. The temp guage works correctly. Does the sending unit and/or the tank need any special grounding?

I'm having same problem in my '62 Valiant, but my temp. gauge doesn't work. Does that mean my voltage limiter is f##ked?
