Folks,

I'm looking to detail the air cleaner housing on my 66 Coronet with the Slant Six. It is the standard "no snorkel" pot sitting on the Holley 1920 on barrel.

What type of black paint, semi-gloss or gloss? It looks to be semi-gloss. Any particular paint brand to look for?

What decals?

The worn decal I took off the side has "MOPAR AIR CLEANER PART NO. 2402704" on top above the "DO NOT WASH OR OIL". I have a repro side decal with "MOPAR" on top and "DO NOT WASH OR OIL" under that. it's not the same exactly. Also, I need to get the "CHARGER 225" decal for the side.

Were there any more? I have one on the top that is long rectangular but I can't read it at all - it is destroyed.

Can you folks help me get the air cleaner right? Thanks much!

Jon

Those air cleaners were glossy or satin black, depending on when and where any particular air cleaner was made. Yours appears to be glossy.

You're right that the repro yellow and black decal you have isn't correct. The all-the-way-correct air cleaner decal is available from Jim Osborn, tel (770) 962-7556, Tues-Fri 7:30A-4:30P, and/or JimOsbornOrders@gmail.com . They're not just a reseller; they have a ton of decals absolutely unavailable elsewhere. Their website hasn't worked in forever, and they never did get round to putting up an online cattledog; you'll have to ask them to send you one.

"Charger 225" is correct—on a chromelike background, not white.

Those are the only two decals that would have been present; whatever that one is on top of the lid, doesn't belong.

Dan,

I knew I could count on you! Now I'm set to fix her right up. Thanks for the lead on the red/yellow sticker. I'd really like to have the right one if I can.

I sent a query to Jim Osborn at the email address. I also noted his name referenced in my Classic Industries catalog in the Emblems & Decals section.

Ugh, Classic Industries. Stay far away.

I have not received any response from Jim Osborn to my email query about the yellow sticker I need. I hate to try to call as that seems intrusive but I may.

In the mean time I have completed restoring my air cleaner aside from the yellow sticker. I used Krylon gray primer and Krylon semi-gloss black. I also did the oil cap and the horns.

I'm still looking for the repro yellow sticker to replace my damaged one.

Thank you.

Jon

I have one like that, and I'd like to rework the base plate so I can use it with a super 6 bbd. I have a few 318 air cleaner housings here and my thoughts were to cut the center of the bottom out of each one and weld in the cut out piece from the 318 unit into the base plate of the filter housing pictured. No reason besides I think the 60s air filter housing looks cool.

I called them this morning. Apparently, my email from a couple of weeks ago was sent to their spam folder so I didn't get a response. Today, the nice woman on the phone checked with the owner and they do not have the decal I need. They only have the similar one that I pictured above. Rats. I can't find the right one anywhere.

I wondering if I should just leave off the wrong decal OR maybe replace my damaged decal since it is still somewhat readable. What should I do? I don't care about car show judging points, I only care about things looking good and as stock as possible.

Well, shyoot, I could've sworn they had that one.

There is this one, which I had reproduced years ago—correct for a 225 engine built in Canada:

Thanks for the help, Dan.

I think I'll put on the one I have (stock number DD0012 from Jim Osborn) which was used on some 1968-1971 V8s. At least until/unless I find the right one.

Jon
