I certainly would be up for a race at Knoxville.

We would definitely be interested in Knoxville.

Would you guys be willing to travel to Wilkesboro? Or Clay City? If we did not do Knoxville?

Edited- I meant if we did not do Knoxville.

Yes. I would do Clay City or Wilkesboro. Kind of like the idea of Knoxville so the family can go play at Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg and we can talk Merle or Gary into letting us store the car/trailer there for a few days. We could probably do the same for Wilkesboro since those places would be on the way/way back. Clay city has rained both times I've been there.

We have been to Knoxville 5 or 6 times and only raced one whole race. :( Odds of me racing or canoeing at Knoxville are about 50/50 :D :D

I towed to Knoxville in the late 80's to race the Bruners.
It rained.

Clay City the anniversary race was a real fish drowner too.

Yep we barely made it out of Dodge that morning! Followed the Droschak's through deep water many times getting out of Clay City!

Nice feedback, folks! We want to keep the total number of races small and promote them well. I think Knoxville will be less popular than Wilkesboro or Clay City or Fairlawn. Clay City is not far from Knoxville, and nor is Wilkesboro.

Maybe we should do a poll on this second "big" race location. Assumedly, we would do this in late Aug, Sept or even Oct to space them out and avoid Carlisle and Nats overlaps.

If I do a poll on this site, can someone else do a poll on Facebook?

Thanks!
Lou

Knoxville would be better in our dry season (September - November). We are a rain forest, so anything out side of then has a very high chance of rain. We will probably stick to a 3 hr travel distance. If we are considering September then that would give a lot more prep time and word spreading time.

I would be happy to run a poll for the second location. What options do we want to narrow it down to?

Is the 1st race decided as Mo-Kan?

Will we be considering a 3rd race?

Mokan - Midwest race
Mason Dixon is definitely on for May. I would prefer two more. I hate to race on May 1st and then not race until Sept. or Oct. But we need people that are willing to come. :?: :?:

Now we are talking about 4 races (including MoKan). I am leery about this, but am willing to see what people think. I will try to include several options in the poll.

The Clay City Mopar event is usually in September, but was Aug 25-27 last year. (< 3 hrs from GillWelding)
The Wilkesboro Don Carlton event (which would be fun to pair with) is scheduled for Aug 31, 2024, but we could choose another date. (3.5 hrs from GillWelding)
I can host Motormile in Fairlawn, VA almost any time. (4 hrs from GillWelding)
I expect Knoxville can host about any time.
Sounds like MoKan is a go in April.
Mason-Dixon (Hagerstown, MD) is definitely a go on the May 18 weekend (with Mopar show).

Keep stirrin' the pot!

Lou

Agreed, 4 races I think is too much until we build a little more steam. As a reminder we will only support 3 races with prizes.

We could do a poll for all four places and see what happens. Otherwise it sounds settled on Mo-Kan and Mason-Dixon.

I can run the poll on Facebook tonight (the poll runs 2 days).

I will defer to you guys on where to go and how many. I will try and come wherever you decide. But if we are only having 2 Eastern races I would prefer not Knoxville simply due to the rain they seem to always have. Again if the majority wants Knoxville I will try and come.

I will try to make what I can, August and September sometimes can be tricky with work and school requirements but I will try.

I also do not Knoxville as It is far for me, but let the consensus decide.

Some guy on one of the FB Slant pages posted that we need to start a Slant racing series. He was directed here by multiple members.
