Some folks never use them and apparently have no rattles. My only data point is that I just installed a set, used the rubber bands, and have no rattles.

What is the bolt size and length/thread size for the bolt that holds the caliper bracket (slider type) to the spindle on these disc brakes? Mine are 11" rotors, slider style. It's a fine thread pitch I know that much, about 2-2/5" long, but does anyone have the exact specs for this bolt?

Is it 1/2-20 thread, 1 5/8" long? That sounds about right, want to confirm.

I can't see the threads with everything put together, but the holes in my spare M-body caliper brackets (11" rotor) are 1/2". The head on the bolts installed on my car is 3/4", which also implies a bolt diameter of 1/2". I don't recall if they were coarse (1/2-13) or fine (1/2-20), but fine seems more likely.

1-5/8" sounds about right for bolt length. My spare brackets look to be about 3/4" thick where these bolts pass through, if you take the countersink into account.

Confirmed, it is 1/2-20, 1 5/8" long, full threads (although given the thickness of the bracket, I don't think you need full threads as long as the non-threaded part is less than the bracket thickness).

UPDATE: Finally got a chance to get back to my brakes! I pretty much used everyone's suggestions. Applied BrakeQuite goo on the back of the pads, added the Rubber Band things in the proper place, checked wear on the slider brackets against a Brand New Pair. No significant wear whatsoever! The Retaining Clips were the major problem! The ones that came with the calipers were flimsy, thin, and cheaply made. I replaced them with a slightly heavier stamped metal type that work well!
