We have had 9 (?) 74-76 Darts / Valients, and only two that I can recall had the rattle. I have heard about the o-ring rubber band, but never seen it on a car, and that is the first illustration showing its exact location. We have one 'rattler' now, so I think I'll try the o-ring trick. Thanks for the illustration. (And good discussion.) |

I wish I had read this thread prior to doing new calipers, pads and rotors on my '82 d150, the other day. I couldn't come up with an idea as to what the rubber bands were for. So, they didn't get used. I thought about pulling the calipers off again to install them, but passed on that. No rattles evident. The rubber gaskets in a separate caliper hardware kit were much beefier than the ones included with the Cardone "Ultra premium" calipers. Lots of real crappy powder coating overrun too. I did hammer adjust the mount tabs to take out vertical mount slack on the pads. They work, but I'll stick with my usual brands on parts from now on. |
