Ok, I feel kinda dumb, but here is the thing. I got the front disk brakes for my 65 Belvedere off of a 74ish Valiant. I made the swap nearly 20 years ago and I think I may have put the left spindle on the right side and the right spindle on the left side. This places the brake caliper to the front side of the spindle. I just notices this when I was replacing the front rotors. Can someone post a pic of a stock A body brake setup? I'd like to set things right if I have it backwards.
I guess there is a reason I quit drinkin'.

I have a 73 and up disk brake set up on my 68 Barracuda and the calipers are on the front side of the rotor,,
I believe that is the 'stock' set up for A bodies anyway,,. I had read somewhere that you can swap the spindles and have the calipers towards the rear and folks do that to make room for some front anti-sway bars

It's weird because most of the pictures I found show the caliper to the rear. And, all my other vehicles have the caliper towards the rear. Does anyone know if one way is better than another? It is a way to move about 26 pounds to the rear by about a foot.

I don't know the year or body cutoffs, but I know different Mopars throughout the years have had them front or rear. I've got mine to the rear to make room for aftermarket sway bar mounts. The only practical reason I've heard to mount them on the front is to make it easier to run cooling ducts, if you do a lot of hard track driving.

Well, I am seriously considering swapping them to the rear. I have to disassemble it anyway to replace the lower control arm bushings. Needs more research.....

Either way will work. Front is standard for most factory installs. Rear moves wt slightly rearward and gives more room for sway bar, etc. I have all mine on the rear, although none are factory calipers.

Not sure if this applies to your Belvedere, but inn a '64 A-body with a late A-body disk swap, be careful with the brake hose selection/installation. If the calipers are to the rear, check the hose clearances. There can be rubbing/binding. Mine are OK, but I see how it could go wrong.

Matt,
I have both 1974 and 1975 Valiant disk brake factory setups and they are both mounted front side of the wheel.

Ok, this is good info to know. I'll just leave things alone as I have so much more to finish if I am going to make Mason Dixon in May.

The 1973 factory manual (freely available online) shows them on front. My printed 1974 manual shows the same.

1973-1976 A Body are mounted to the front... on the later cars you have to watch it , since they use that same picture
'cut/paste' in the later manuals and the picture isn't quite right for the FMJ cars (but they have the same system...)

FYI.
