picked up a set of K1 rods for a future build,, did some trial fitting and inspection to see what these were like.

saw that the King rod bearings did not want to seat fully in the cap or the body at the bearing tang

K1 rod the lock slot is .124 wide and .050 deep
stock rod, lock slot is .162 wide and .100 deep

King bearing lock is .155 wide and .100 deep

I had seen the posts where on the early K1's the slots were on the wrong side,, this set is OK for that,, but looks like the slots are small,,
for these bearing anyway..

1) do folks normally just open the slot in the rod-cap with a dremel?

2) and since there is no spurt oiling on these,,, is there a front and a rear for installation?

thanks
DT

are the rods in question for a cast crank? I think I should go measure my set of k1's(cast crank) to see if this is something else to worry about

Some of the rods had this problem, and my shop just fixed it with a little mill notch. I haven't checked my other set yet. I would probably use a hand file. You will need to enlarge the slot, or the bearing will not crush properly.

yes, these are cast crank rods,,

the bearing shell needs to fully seat, if it gets held out, you will loose clearance for the oil film..

I got these through campbellenterprises,,I'll call them and K1 on Monday,, I'll fix these myself,, but they should not be letting these off the shelf like this.

and what about the rod orientation?
when putting the rods in the engine, does one just put the lock slots on the same side as the OE rods?

WV,, dude, it ain't Christmas yet,,you may have a set coming,, so go ahead and hold your breath!

And I remember when Tom was on here bragging that even though their forgings were Chinese the machine work and final inspections were done here.

spoke with Susan at K1 about the lock slot size question,, she checked the print and said,,,
you are right,, the width should be .165,, K1 does spec the depth at .050

She said she will follow up with the manufacturing operation to get a correction

and got an e mail and return call from CampbellEnterprises,,

talked with them and they said they would follow up with K1..

I got a set with wrong size groove, just opened them up with a small cut off saw blade on a dremel, no problem

Would it be easier to narrow the tang on the bearing?

I am sure you could, the main thing is the bearing shell needs to fit properly in the rod half round,, or you will loose clearance for the oil film..

I would also worry about alignment.
