Are there different water pump shaft lengths over the years for /6? Looking for the shortest to make room for an electric fan in my 69 Dart. Thanks

The SL6 water pumps all have the same input shaft length.
The only "trick" I know is to press the pulley flange deeper onto the shaft and then cut-back the shaft "nub" that protrudes.
Doing this will require the use of a flatter waterpump pulley.

Doug,
I guess there's not enough shaft to press it far enough and flip the pulley? It would make a kind of pocket for my fan motor and maybe still line up the belt. idk. Thanks for that tidbit!

You could run (2) 8" or 10" fans and then there wouldn't be a problem. My current 16" fan is only 3" thick so I have plenty of room, but I may make a switch just to make it more efficient and the fans would run less.

Only 3" thick. That's pretty low profile. Is that an aftermarket or OEM off some other model. I was pulling stuff off a 85 Olds Regency to do fuel injection and looked at the fan. I'll be danged if it wasn't really close to the right width and height if you turn it 90 degrees. It's just kinda thick: like 4 1/2" if I trim on it some. Anyone know an OEM fan that fits?

No not OEM. I have been using the ProComp for the past 5 years now. See my electric fan posts in the Engine FAQ.

Procomp 16 Inch Electronic Thermo Cooling Fan
Great for Radiators, Oil Coolers, & Transmission Cooler, Condenser etc.
Part# PC-2054
* Procomps 12v High Performance Reversible Electrical Cooling Fans are idea for OEM or High Performance applications.
* Draws only 12.5 Amps!
* Configured as a puller from the factory, it mounts on the inside and pulls the air through the radiator.
* Blades and polarity of the wiring can be reversed and it becomes a pusher
* Universal fit for Cars, Trucks, Muscle Cars, Imports & Domestics, Hot Rods Street Rod, Show Car etc. Chevy Ford Pontiac Olds Chrysler
* Includes mounting tabs.
* 2500 CFM Rating
Measurements:
* Thickness- 1 1/2" at edge, 3" at center
* Height- 16"
* Width- 17"

got off of eBay new for $24.95

Derale has some nice 16" units that are even thinner, 2 5/8" thick part# 259-18217 is 17" diameter.

You could also go with Procomp's dual 9" fans for $64.95 and not have to worry about clearing the pump at all. Mount them up high and they might even be more efficient than my single 16" unit.
