This engine is assembled except for the intake & exhaust manifolds.

The engine in my Dacuda is just not "happy" these days, it's running hot and when I check the water level, the radiator is full of brown goop.
I have known that engine oil has been getting into the cooling system for a while now... but the engine keeps running and I keep adding oil.

Enough! It's Twiggy's turn... in it goes.
The only change in plan is to re-use the aluminum 1 bbl intake manifold and factory exhaust manifold currently on the Dacuda, they are "known quantities". Intake / exhaust improvements will wait until later.

So here are some photos of the engine going into the car:

No big issues getting the new engine installed but I have work on my hands as far as trying to get the cooling system clean... what a mess, looks like more oil then water came out of the radiator. All the hoses will have to be replaced and the radiator will need a good flushing to get all the goop out.

Time to get all the other hook-up done and to start this engine.

The single pot master cylinder works OK for now... if it gives me any trouble, it will be changed to the dual system.

I like the suggestion to swap in an aluminum radiator... I may have to do that because I may never get all the oily goop out of the current radiator.

Yes, the D'Cuda is running a 904 so no Alm. flywheel needed there.

On that note, I came across a aluminum SL6 flywheel years ago, 122 tooth, SL6 bolt pattern and it has the bronze facing... I think I paid $80.00 for it. :shock:
Too bad it has the small crank pilot hole in it but even that is not a big deal.
Someday I will find a manual shift car to use it in but it will not be the Dacuda

As for the engine installation, I hit a snag with that prototype aluminum head, it does not have the upper bolt boss and tapped hole to mount the alternator's "slider" bracket. :oops: Back when this head was made, the A-Body cars had a generator mounted on the driver's side.

Well... I had to spend some time making brackets and some wiring extensions to get the alternator moved to the driver's side of the engine bay but that's done. The good news, I can get rid of that 2 pound "chunk of cast iron", alternator mounting base bracketry that is used for right side mounting.
Oh, the coil's mounting bracket also needed a little reworking to allow it to bolt directly to the old bracket's mounting holes.

If I get the cooling system installed, it should be ready to fire-up tonight.

doug, there is no reason a radiator shop wouldnt be able to boil-out all traces of engine oil from your radiator. i have had it done on several occasions for clients of mine.

We have lift-off...
Twiggy fired right up and gets 55 psi of oil pressure, so far, so good.
The idle was real choppy at a .016 In - .021 Ex initial lash settings and we are getting a bunch of oil up at the rocker arms, thanks to a small groove in the rear cam journal. Not a full groove just 1/2, connecting the two oil feed holes along one side of the journal.

Loosened the lash to .020 In - .023 Ex and the idle quality improved a lot.
(Erson RDP cam 260 In and the Mopar 244 Ex lobe) Any looser and it starts to "clatter". Got the valve cover on and cleaned-up the mess.

Looks like there is a small oil leak coming from the fuel pump mounting gasket, we will have to come back to that later. Everything else looks fine.

A short test drive has the engine running well, showing good power and throttle response. We ran out of daylight so the final "tune" will have to wait until tonight... but we also need to do a gear ratio swap (3.23 to 2.94) if we are going make the "trek" to Medford... but it is looking like a "go".
I will try to post some photos later tonight.
