The 265 has a long stroke that's within .03-inch of the 6BT, it is designed for smooth off-idle torque for heavy Chryslers. Many swap the 265 for the 251 in the WM300. George overbores them to 283 cubic inches, or greater. Earl Edgerton built a 270 horsepower na 265, but I think that's like 400 hp in a slant six. The L-head rings near the exhaust valve get hot - can coke the ring lands - the other side of the piston has great quench. Synthetic motor oil and use of a top end cleaner can allow the rings and pistons to last much longer, or use propane. George claims he has a flathead Plymouth with more than 300,000 miles on a rebuild he did 35 years ago.

The 225 is a good workhorse truck motor, within its limits. Much better top end of the motor than an L-head. They used the L-head six for 40 years, was good for its era.

Sure why not, now I realize this is a Slant 6 forum, but hey the L head is it's Father, so to speak...
I could very well go and install a slant 6 into my 55, thats not a big deal, but should I is the question.
I do have a 265, to go in, my engine already has dual carbs and exhaust and if my pic files weren't so big would post some of them.

George sells an adapter to install the 833 O/D with the flathead six. There aren't many 1955 Dodge/Fargo trucks left.

Oh im aware of the A833 plate
Tim Kingsbury and I are very well acquainted.
A lot of the A833 adapter plates have been sold.
I dont personally know whos already done the swap.
I just tentatively bought 2 IND 265s these might end up at Georges.
With 3.23 gears i dont really need an overdrive.
If i go the A833 route would switch to 3.73 gears or close.

The long stroke 265 in stock from will have more HP and torque than a stock slant 6.
But a Slant 6 can be built for more HP.
The 265 can be built to rev 5500 RPM, but again not as high as the slant maybe 6000+.
OHV and 6 intake ports, will take precedence over siamesed intake ports and an L head design...
Overboring to .125 yes can be done pistons will be the issue and expense
Suppliers already have pistons to .080.
For most if us we dont need Venolias to .125 or a .435 lift cam.
These are all specs for a 265 flathead not slant 6s.
I apologize in advance to the site moderators for this thread veering off topic.
Earl and Pete Hendrickson along with the AoK boys have done very impressive things to flatheads again not cheap nor appropriate for most hobbyists and drivers of flatheads and not cheap to do either.

He Tim the power difference between a well worn 228 flathead 6 andbthe 265 flathead 6 in my truck remains to be seen?
What Im getting at is this. Do I spend big buck$ and rebuild a 265 and will it have noticeably more power than a 228 in same vehicle and gearing?
If not much or marginal.a swap to a slant 6 might be a better idea.
Im.not looling for big power but want a power increase if spending 3 grand to build an engine.
