Hey Board, I got a question...

My first car was a 1978 Dodge Aspen Beater... And I still feel as if ive never had the joy that car gave me, it had a /6.. I never changed the oil in it the first year i owned it, by the second year I was treating it better... but it got pulled off the road because the brake light was on, brakes worked fine... anyways, the frame was bent, and it wasnt going to pass inspection, and it cost me less then 4 new tires.

I loved the Slant 6, and im considering somthing for my new project.. but Im curious as to how the motor mounts.

My dream car has always been a 2nd generation Mazda Rx7, i think its because my brother owns one... so 2 years ago, i bought my dream car... after my KYB struts failed under warrenty I decided to take it in for a little upgrade, and the shop... Kaltire, left me with a blown Apex seal...

I was horrified, after paying the 2,000 bill I learned that they did not want to claim responsibility... so the motor came out, and now im left with a roller...

Everyone usually puts chevy 350´s in these cars... because well, its just cheaper then a rotary.. and get more power, better gas milage..

I was thinking about putting my favorite motor in my favorite car... I know, why the hell would anyone put a slant six in an rx7 right? well, somthing about the idea of lifting the hood and seeing a slant six, just gives me goosebumps...

Grannys speed shop sells a mounting kit for a Mopar ¨A¨ 318,360.
Im curious as to what the mounting style is of this motor... as well as the dimensions, i know it was slanted 30 degrees to create a lower hood line.. So i would assume it has to be smaller vertically then a 318, or 360...

Does it Mount ¨A¨ style?
Anyone ever take a tape measure to it?
I know some welders, and a few machinists that could help me if need be... but I really think if I could get a 225, or 170 to push out 200 horses... i´d be happy, especially seeing the 6er in the 7
In addition, if anyone feels the rx7 doesnt deserve such a low powered motor... well, i think it would keep the unique qualities it had with the rotary.... not a hot rodders choice... but somthing that makes me glee..
especially a turbo carbed slant, I think its the intake and exhaust pattern with the 30 tilt that makes me love it so much...

let me know, wont order parts till I know it will squeeze...

well judging by it being named the 273... ill assume a 225 fits...

1 canadian, and 1 american... sounds about right lol
a slapshift auto would seriously make me feel like I won the lottery...
but still, I miss that Aspen

I think it would be neat as well. I've seen that RX7 that Josh owns in person, and I think it's a great base for such a project.

I've got an "original idea" to be in the works hopefully soon... one that no one else has....

Oh noes! Must get back to work on the RX! The graphics and such were done for the 273 I built. Changing the numbers to RX-230 (the 225 is +.040") will be the easiest part of the job.

Lately I've been showing some love to an A833 so my Valiant can go from 3 forward gears to 4. Once the trans is together I may bring the RX-7 into the garage and start fitting the slant and 904. I'm pretty sure the Clifford long tube A-body headers will fit. If not I'll have to make up something else and keep the headers for the Valiant.

Dang, I have a 1991 RX7 roller that I've hung on to forever.. I was drunk the other nite and thought about what a turbo slant would be like in my mazda. Kind of crazy that I just logged on and browsed around and found someone who thought the exact same thing!

It would be an attention getter for sure.

I rolled my RX-7 out of the back yard last night. Man this thing is light! My A833 that was scattered all over the work bench is done so now I can port the cylinder head and finish the engine. Then I'll work on getting it mounted in the car. Then wiring and plumbing and...

After reading this last night, I got to thinking.... they make smallblock--->v8 conversion mounts don't they? like, if you wanted to put a v8 in your car that had a slant x-member?

If you can somehow reverse the v8 to slant mounts, then technically couldn't you just use the Granny's LA crossmember with the conversion mounts?

Yes, but you won't find any 8 to 6 motor mounts. I asked Schumaker once and they told me no.

I'll see about taking pictures of the V8 mounts I made. The passenger's side frame mount should be pretty close for a slant. The driver's side motor bracket for the slant can be extended to reach the driver's side fame mount. Hmm, now you've got me thinking about using rubber mounts instead of the motor plate.

Actually, you can see the mounts reasonably well in this photo. They are angle iron over the frame rail and square tubing. FYI, that's a 360 block with no internals, truck oil pan, regular 360 heads and Magnum pickup exhaust manifolds.

About to embark in a 225 Slant 6 and A833 trrans swap into a 1st Gen 1979 RX7.
Will post pics along the way.

Had some time earlier this evening.
Good news is plenty of room for the engine.
Bad news oil pan will never clear front cross member or steering drag link.
Need some type of extreme rear sump oil pan...lol
