Don't sell Howard short.

Their Dart was very fast, and was a really well built/beautiful car.

The Davis gang is good people too. :D

Maybe this will motivate Mike to put the Valiant back together.

Boy, this did not age well.

Hard to believe this thread is over 11 years old already. Sad to see the people no longer with us.

Useless trivia, I have one of Howard's old converters in my car now. It stalled 5200 for him and wasn't enough. I haven't put it on the brake yet in mine to see what I can get out of it.

Yep, pretty sad. All good things...

I have quite a number of Mike J parts scattered around my cars now. Would be nice to see The Davis' race again sometime. I would pay more attention now...

I'd love to race with some of the folks I've never met. I'd rather drive west to race than South. Not that I have anything against Knoxville, but it is usually 120 degrees and 75% of our trips have ended in rain. So someone plan a race out there and I'll try and come! :D

PS- I am running Howard's old external oil pump system on my car.

Out of the blue I got a call from Howard tonight and we had a nice little chat. (2:45)

He had the car out once this year, he didn't volunteer what it ran.

He did say he really enjoys playing golf with his son now.

It's good to keep up with the circle.
Nothing worse than calling someone or hearing about their demise.
You just never know.

Here is the latest picture from Robert Maw's facebook post.

I like the Toyota T series head. They were only 75 hp stock (when a 225 was making 95), but can make 700 hp. There is a decent (spendy)cottage industry for parts like billet heads. Bore is similar to a slant six, pushrods are on same side - and it's based on a 50s Mopar hemi valve train. Intake would be on passenger sIde. They seem to be popular in Latin America. 700 hp will split the Toyota block - some use a custom "girdle". I'd like to see just one made. The T water pump is even offset like a slant six. The 3TC as a six would be close to a 170. Just one! There has got to be lots more slant sixes still around than 70s Corollas - and yet they manage to accomplish impressive results

Robert Maw is posting on FB again. As I suspected they let him use machines during shop downtime. He has a 2nd head roughed out to the point of installing guides and finishing spring pads.

For years and decades, fans of this engine have said "After the nuclear war, what's left will be cockroaches and Slant-6 Darts and Valiants".

I'd like to amend that: After the nuclear war, what's left will be cockroaches and Slant-6 Darts and Valiants, and the cockroaches will be talking about what if there were an aluminum head available for their Slant-6 Darts and Valiants.

An OEM head is 95 percent, it would be a pity to pay $3,000 for the other 5 percent, and except for a few on this forum nobody cares in an "LS swap it" hobby.

I have a hunch that dental implants will have the same long term price drop as LASIK and that some future tech will make the miracle head affordable before I die. In that world the nth iteration of the Giga Press extrudes whatever .
