Hi Guys
I though i would pass this on, about my rocker shaft.
I bought some over size valve's off of e-bay and had them installed on the head. I DID NOT CHECK the stem height.
So now I'm doing my valve train geometry and had to lift my rocker shaft 5/16" off of the saddle, I will mill the saddle tops off on the milling machine and make up aluminum block's like ( Will ) did in is pictures.
Boy..5/16" is a lot, but you have to make it work ?
Thanks
Mike

Why not remove the valves and shorten the stems and recut the keeper grooves?

Yeah, or that. That would be the cheapest and easiest solution.

For me, lifting the shaft is the easy way, I don't have to spend any money.

Hmm... 5/16" seems like a really long way.
Won't you need longer push rods?
And what about valve spring height?

Moving the rocker shaft centerline upward makes the valve centerlines move farther away from the rocker arm tips. You might want to re-think this before you ruin your head.

How much of the valve stem is sticking above the retainer? Could you tim 1/8" off? Then you might could make it work.

In my experience, doing it (whatever "it" is) the right way almost always costs less money, effort, time, aggravation, blood, sweat, and tears.

How much longer are new valves compared to the old valves ? I have made the aluminum stands before like you are talking about but they were only .200 taller.

I did this on a 440 engine that I installed 1.6 ratio shaft mount chevy roller rockers, and it worked fine ( running 10.8's for about 10 seasons). I have a slant six head in process, doing the same thing. I used the rocker stands for a Mopar 413 engine (they had bolt on stands, and the same rocker shaft diameter). By raising the shaft, I can run longer valves, and keep a longer guide (better support, longer life), with a high lift cam. Yes it does require different springs, and pushrods (I made my own, by shortening longer tubular ones).

OK..here's what is going on, This morning I took two other heads that I have and took the valves out to check and compare with the stainless ones, the only difference was the head size.
I feel like a dog chasing its tail.
Ok..my stem height is same as stock, so why do I need to shim my rocker shaft so much to get my valve train geometer right ??
what else could, rocker size ??
Help
Mike

Severely recessed valve seats? Some pictures would help here. Are you using the adjustable rocker arms that came on mechanical cam engines?

Thanks guy's
