Where do you purchase a good head gasket for a race motor. The last one I purchased was from Cox Brothers and was a copper gasket. I know they haven’t been selling for slants and I will need one when I put my motor back together. Also will need freeze plug kit for this motor. Any help will be appreciated.

What is your static compression ratio? Fel Pro is good up to about 11:1. The Aussie gasket (composition) is good to about 12:1.

Lou it is suppose to be 10 to 1 according to Gary Bruner who built the engine. Does felpro have a web site I can order from. Thanks Norm

Just order an engine rebuild kit, you get extra gaskets you may need later and the head gasket alone costs about 1/3-1/2
the rebuild kit. You can get them at Rock Auto, or order at Auto zone... FS7918PT-4 for the full gasket set at about $70...
Head gasket only... 7918PT-1 and is $23+

I used a felpro gasket on an 11:1 engine and it blew on a freshly milled flat deck and head... a number of killer bees
use the victor reinz gasket on their rides, I have fired off the 12.3:1 engine and no issues with that gasket...previously
switched tot he Reinz gasket on that 11:1 motor and had no problems with it.

If it is only 10:1, I think any gasket you can find will work fine. Victor should be available at any parts store (order 1-3 days?) or the Felpro.

IIRC, Jim still had an assortment of copper gaskets last March at the ICH Swap.

I trust any of these guys if they say the Fel-pro head gasket will work fine for your application, but if you're buying an entire engine gasket kit then I'd go ahead and step up to Victor Reinz to get a better manifold gasket. I've never gotten a Fel-pro manifold-to-head gasket to seal correctly. Any of these, as well as the expansion plugs, can be found on RockAuto.

If you're running a stock exhaust manifold, neither of those kits will have a good gasket for the heat riser box. I'd go with the Remflex gasket for that.
