Yes it happened at the Mopar event. Damage assessment later today.

Challenger engine has the pickup up coming from the side of the pan for the external pump

Do you know where that pick up came from. I have an external pump that I may install and will come off the pan also.

The pick up itself is just a modified stock one that is welded to a fitting to mount to the side of the pan.

Here is my pickup fix.

I wanted to keep the interference fit with the bottom of the pan... it had 1/4" interference.

I also wanted to raise the pickup off the pan floor 1/4".

So i cut the tube 1/4" shorter and added some 1/4" spacers... still interferce with pan bottom for ridigity but raised.... we'll see if it works

Have same problem with the Pickup modification - Oil Pressure lowers with rising RPM. I am going to try to add 3 qts to the 5 that are in there... Maybe with the more open clearances I am pulling the pan dry somehow?

Mebbe its a drainback problem.....

...too much more oil and you might fill up the valve cover.

Could it be a problem with the pump itself? The relief / adjustment ...etc? Just guessing

This is a Modified Pan that can Hold at least 2 Gal alone.

Yes Rick, maybe it's also time to open up the Oil pump and clean it all out and see what's going on in there.

I think Now I have to investigate all of the little things before I throw in the towel.

The only other thing I could think of is that there is some Malady with the Block or crank - if that's the case well then I am done for the year.

Added 3 quarts of oil - had no effect.

Same pressure drop with increasing Revs.

I will inspect and Clean the Oil Pump tomorrow - we'll see.

I took apart and cleaned oil pump.. nothing out of the ordinary there.

Put it all back together, fired it up... let it get warm and after warming up same issue.

This is a bizarre problem that i think has us baffled.

It must be something internal with the build, block or crank.

Well, when the 64 Dart tossed the main bearings (#2 and #3 mostly destroyed), the oil pressure would drop somewhat when I put a load on it (going up hills, for example), but oil P still went up with RPM. Seems like it has to be a restriction somewhere (filter, hoses, junctions, pump...), or some side clearance opening up at higher RPM in rods/mains??

Bummer... Luckily you have other cool Slant 6 cars to bring to Clay City.

Lou

Is it possible that one of the hoses has separated inside from the outside wall of the hose...? Kind of like a laminated exhaust pipe can separate and fold closed on itself on the inside and you can't see a thing from the outside. Perhaps the hose is ok until higher volumes / RPM then pressure gets behind the inner liner of the hose and then it pinches off on itself. Just thinking out loud. Sorry for the problems Greg!

It sure is possible, That would be an easy fix too - I have 3 Sections of -10AN Hose that connects the Pickup to the pump - pump to filter and then filter output to block.
Its goofy ' cause I didnt have any of the oil problems until 3 weeks ago - Made a myriad of other horrible test passes with bad electronics issues and now the oil stuff.

The other Thought That I have - It's a cheap trick too...
I found out that the External Pump I have is a Gambler Brand pump which was bought out by wulff pumps - They have all the parts to rebuild these - I think I am going to buy their spring Assortment and try some different springs - also maybe try resetting the Oil pressure from the lowest setting and see what happens there too.

Maybe the spring just fatigued and crapped out on me? Would be A nice soultion, but I doubt it will work.
