Hi all. This is my first post. My brief history is that I grew up with 3 different slants in two Volares and a short van, before I could drive. One of the Volares was a super six. By the time i could drive. The 2.2 turbo or NA cars were the families weapon of choice so I messed with those for a long time. I also bought a 68 Javelin when I was 17 so that has been the constant toy among the varous GLH cars and other turbo dodges I played with over the years.

I recently got a 85 d100 that had a 225/a833 transplant for a 318. My problem is that all the info I have on the engine is that "it came from a 69 Barracuda"... the thing is, I'm the 3rd owner since the transplant. I need to do some minor things like a tune up, but i wanted to know exactly what I have to start with. I also suspect that the timing chain is a tooth off, and the tune has been doctored to run ok(?). So on with the block numbers.

Casting is 2806830-2. A 225 right?

Front stamping location is P/R T225R _ _ 2 _ 21. the deck may have been machined. The numbers are faint.

Rear location is a problem. There appears to be numbers stamped over old numbers. I'll do x/y to signify a "x" stamped over "y" at a single spot... 9 B 2/6 9/8? 6 4/8 1/? 2/? Or if just the top #s. 9B296412. I hope that is clear enough.

If anyone can help it would be great. Let me know if any more information is needed.

I am not an expert..
But i do know that "T225" means the engine is a 225 from a truck.

Someone else might be able to tell you what the rest of the letters mean.

An RG block, so depending on what crankshaft and connecting rods it has, it's a 198 or a 225. Odds are it's a 225, since there were many more of those made than 198s.

PT: Trenton engine plant
225: Obvious
R: Regular-fuel engine

Rest of numbers can't be decoded without all of them, but we can make a rough guess.

2021: 8 February 1967, too early for a 2806830 block.
2121: ditto
2221: 27 August 1967, valid for this block. Would've gone in a '68-model car.
2321: 5 December 1967, ditto.
2421: 14 March 1968, ditto
2521: 22 June 1968, ditto
2621: 30 September 1968, would've gone in a '69-model car
2721: 8 January 1969, ditto
2821: 18 April 1969, ditto
2921: 27 July 1969, ditto

(or 9B-plus-any-other-six-digits) Last 8 digits of a 1969-model car built at Hamtramck, Michigan.

Well then. It seems the rumored "it came from a 69 Barracuda" could very well be correct.

I'll plan on using that while scrounging for parts.

Thanks alot.

It really matters very little what the engine came from provided that it's a forged-crankshaft, solid-lifter engine. Most internal parts are common to that entire cohort, but not everything. What changed most was carburetors and distributors. And since your engine was transplanted is very well may not have a '69 Barracuda carb or distributor.

I'm learning as i go. Fir instance I think the 4spd is one of the later versions that had the 4th gear as a kind of overdrive. 4th is useless below 45 or so. Obviously im still figuring out what I have here,.. being a former 318/auto, the rear is probably a highway friendly ratio. Combined with the 4th gear its quite a tall combo. I'll have to spin the rear end to see what ive got.
