My understanding is that the K frame in the 60-61 cars differs from the 62-66 cars... All engines should have the same motor mount bosses... Question: Are the motor mount brackets different from the 60-61 to the 62-66 cars? And are the brackets the same 62-66, or just the 62 alone...? Looking for a set of brackets that will fit a 1962 K frame. |

'60-'61 mounts are significantly different to '62-'66 mounts. If you're after mounts that will put a Slant-6 engine on a '62 K-frame, these are the good ones (or go to the parts store and spend $12 over and over and over again on ones from India made of compressed cow dung, or ones from China made of chopped and formed unwanted girl-children and political dissidents). |

Thanks Dan, but he has the rubber mounts. Looking for information on the metal bracket interchangeability that mounts the runner mount to the block. He no longer had those parts. Are the 62 through 66 all the same...? |

'62-'66 Slant-6 A-body mounts are all alike. '60-'61 mounts are unitised; there is no separate bracket/separate rubber insulator like the '62-up mounts. |

So...does anyone make a good motor mount for the 67+ A body? I see the poly ones but they are the 66- style. |

Thanks, I missed that. I actually found a new aftermarket mount locally for $10...Made in USA by Sealed Power....for the passenger side. I'll ask the Poly place if I can buy just the driver's side. Then...maybe it's a not a good idea to run a poly on one side only... |

I think they sell singles because for V8s they are same side-side. I have one on the DS of my turbo car. Yep, broke/separated the old one, although it did have the truck style interlock that saved it from fully pulling apart. Can't imagine why poly on one side only (the "hard use" one) would be a problem. Lou |

I was able to find some old stock of USA-made mounts so I'm gonna try them. Certainly less $$ than a poly mount. I'm not against the poly mounts but one thing is for sure - they have a greatly different durometer rating than an OEM mount. I'm not sure if that's significant or not but it's worth being aware of. As an aside...my friend who owns the transmission shop had a guy come in with an S-10 pickup. It was vibrating due to a broken mount, so he had another shop replace all the engine mounts with over the counter aftermarket (Chinese made) parts. The truck still vibrated and the guy had spent a lot of time and money (like a new driveshaft even) trying to fix it. He was at the point of trading it in on a new truck...my friend did some diagnostic work and told the guy he thought it was the mounts. He said if the guy would pay for new OEM mounts, he would change them out for free if they didn't fix the problem. Sure enough, the new mounts did the trick. |

Poly does transmit a bit more vibration, but not bad in my book. However, even the "softer" ones from PolyBushings are quite a bit stiffer than stock rubber. Lou |

My Sealed Power mounts arrived today...definitely 'old school' quality...none of that stinky and/or squishy Chinese rubber. I think they'll be good. |

Sorry I didn't take any pics but...as a point of note, I installed the new mounts today and noticed that the left side aftermarket mounts - both Chinese and USA - don't fit properly. The mount attaches to the bracket with a single 1/2" stud. There is also a 'bump' that registers into a hole on the bracket. This positions the mount and prevents rotation. But, the bump has a base diameter that is larger than the hole so it prevents the mounts from sitting flat on the bracket. It leaves a gap of about .020" between the two faces. I fixed that by adding a big chamfer to the hole. Then, I noticed the stud itself has a base (a splined shank) which is also too large to fit the factory bracket. Another source of a 'gap'. So, I chamfered that hole as well. Finally, the mount sits as intended, flat. I went back and looked at the Chinese mount that had been in the car and it also showed that it was not allowing proper contact - you can see where only a thin ring at the base of the stud and the base of the bump were touching. |
