Well the stock rods use press fit pins and the wisecos use floating pins. Would that combo use the wiseco pins? Do the wiseco pins get pressed into the stock rods? Greg |

Stock rods can be "floated". But using the Wiseco pistons on stock 225 rods, will have the piston way down in the bore, much further then the stock piston. |

The right way to float the piston pin in the rod is to machine the small end of the con rod to accept a pin bushing, press-in the bushing and hone it to finish size. Another way is to simply hone the rod's small end to the correct clearance dimension and run "steel-on-steel". (a hardened steel pin on a forged steel con rod) In ether case, an oil hole should be added at the top of the rod, to allow oil to enter the pin area. DD |

Nice discussion. Mike J floated steel on steel way back when. Dennis might have a motor like that? Why use the short piston on the short rod? Stroker crank? Lou |

The 1.6 compression height piston may be a little too short. (appx a -.300 D.H.) This would get a static compression around 7.7 with a 35 cc head chamber. Maybe look at the specs for the export SL6 7 to 1 CR piston, that may-be a better option. DD |

I have run floated stock rods before with no issues. Oil hole in the top. Current race motor has 6.7 inch rods and Wiseco pistons..plus a turbo. |

As stated, floating steel rods, without bushings is not a problem. Having the oil hole is critical. Over the years I have done many steel on steel floating. On many different engines. On many stock rods there is not enough "meat" on the small end to add a bushing, safely. |

1.74" is stock. 2.2L pistons are around 1.59" and Wisecos are 1.60 or 1.61". Last two are from memory, but I am pretty sure. What is your head volume? Smallest I have made/used (milling and "proud" valve heads) was 30 cc. Not hard to make 33-36 cc's. Lou |

Well i am just kicking some Ideas around. I like the lighter rods and pistons. However for the heads I have available (done correctly with massive valvrs) they are probably milled too much to be practical in a 198/225 block with the 225 crank and long rods. I need to do some calculations for sure. Just trying not to build a new head. I could always go with hyperteutic's as well. A 2.2 flat top piston 1.594 comp. Height on molnar rods might work as well. My calc's on a stock 225 crank /block put the piston about ~0.060" in the hole with a 45cc head might be streetable for the green dart! Probably available in 88, 88.5, 89mm ΓΈ! Greg |

The MLS head gaskets that Ryan had made were available in any thickness you want, That would help lower compression on a head that has been milled a lot or too much.. |
