Original symptom was missing. Found # 6 plug competly gummed up(did not look like oil), #4 sooted & #3 sooted. Replaced plugs & all but #3 was doing it's thing. #3 had 145# compression and th' plug was firing. Replaced dist. cap. #3 still almost dead hole. Ran it a few minutes and missing was either gone or almost undetectable.
Drove down th' road about !/2 mile and miss came back

Pulled wires one at a time and this time #4 is same as dead!
Changed #4 plug and #4 is still dead.... Pulled Valve cover and all rockers jummmmping up and down.

Gonna go right now and re-take comp reading.

Any advise?

We may have already covered this but is this a "Lean Burn" system?

After th' last comp check th' /6 is makin' sense. Whats not makin' sense is that this thing won't let me post again if I put my username in - tells me it is already in use. It was fixed for awhile after admin changed my password(then I changed it to what I wanted and it worked once).

Th' comp check a few min. ago revealed # 4 only has 20#. #3 must have been caused by all th' mechanics(?) pullin' th' wires before I got there. All th' rest of th' holes have 145-165lb.

Anyone wanna guess what I'm gonna have to do next?

Incedently - th' story about th' ATF in th' crankcase is true(even I didn't believe it with all those miles on th' ?6.

Try squirting some oil down #4 spark plug hole and do a compression test again. If your numbers go up, then its likely worn rings or cylinder wall. If not, then its something in the head/valves.

It could be the hydraulic lifters "pumping-up" and holding the valve(s) open. You my wnat to use some shims under the rocker shaft to correct this.
Mopars with shaft mounted, non adjustable rocker arms are know for having problems in this area, any change in valve stem length will hang a valve open. (seat recession or poor machining during a valve job or rebuild)
