Yep, I was trying to check the compression on my 63 Valiant engine, and, and in the process of removing spark plug #3, the plug slipped from my grip and fell down the cavity. wow, I had not noticed that that particular plug hole didn't have that metal sleeve like the others. Where did it go? Where is my plug? Not being familiar with how these heads are machined, I'm confused. Can I assume they are at the bottom of the motor somewhere now? Am I screwed?

Had this happen not long ago on my son's 1980 D100. Fished it out with a magnet.

Get the flexible Magnet tool on a wand.

Your local NAPA or tool store may carry them.

They are invaluable for us butter fingers mechanics.

I have 5 of them... one for each of my dumb butter fingers on one hand :D

So, the plug is at the bottom of the engine, or somewhere down there right? I've tried a magnet, but the reach is not good; I'll get a longer one and try again.
Worse case, if I can't retreive it, then ????

It's not in the bottom. It fell into the lifter valley. Maybe about 8" down from the plug hole.
Did you find the spark plug tube? It can't fall into the engine so it's probably under the car somewhere.

I'm sure it can be removed with a magnet but worst case, if you can't find it with a magnet is to remove the valve cover and look straight down by the bottom of the pushrods. Then you will see it and can direct the magnet to it.

Yes just remove the valve cover and you will be able to see it
