I run a 4.56 Gear for the Ruster in the 1/4 Mile setup.

When I run 1/8th Mile I(have in the past) just left the 4.56 in there.

Can any E.T. or MPH be gained in the 1/8 by changing to the 4.88 for 1/8 only?

Greg

Many drag racers do this and do see gains. I do not know for sure with Slant 6 guys as not many have bothered to do this. You could go to 5.13s or even higher and not run out of RPMs...

I've got a set of 5.38's if you wanna borrow them. Gears only, not in a pig.

I believe Ron Hamby told me he has run everything from 4.10's to 4.88's and did not see enough gains to make the hassle worthwhile. I believe he settled on 4.30's

Now if you are going for a certain record ,Greg, a little hassle may pay off !!

Oh, I'm on the way to the garage to change my rear too. 3.55's to 2.76's for the trip.

How's your off the line traction?

If you lose traction with the lower gears, you'll be slower.......

Traction is great,

Dennis, I might borrow those, are they for a "489" case?

I have 4.56's now and I have a 4.88 pig that is also ready to go.
It didn't play well in the 1/4 mile but I still have it.

Pretty sure mine are for a 742, but I will look at the shop this weekend. Honestly, a 4.88 ought to be enough.

Good to see ya, Ron! All the best to you and Judy. Was great to see the "Slanted Attitude" Dart at Mason-Dixon and have it win a race!
