Manual valve bodies usually reverse the normal shift pattern. Some shifters will work with either one by just changing a plate that shows which gear you are in, others only work with either the forward or reverse pattern. Look at the web site for your shifter and it should show if it can go either way. You are right that you have to select each gear, no more stab and steer.

The manual valve body eliminates any gear overlap. For drag racing, this usually means quicker ET's. They take some getting used to on the street.
No down shifting and no engine breaking in first gear.

Ok , I have a B&M Pro Ratchet and it will work with the reverse pattern valve body. Guess I better go talk to Ryan about borrowing his spare transmission. That would be the easiest thing to do.

Thanks Guys!

I have that same shifter in my 65 Sport Fury. It has had a manual valve body in it for over 40 years (727 trans). Anyway, that's a nice shifter.

Some of the manual vb's have engine braking in 1st.. those are the ones you want for saftey reasons.

A&A has some nice units with this feature :D :D
