The grand prize (and considered by some to be the "true" winner) is the Index of Effluency award, presented to a car considered unlikely to finish the race at all, let alone finish with a respectable number of laps completed. The team that wins the Index of Effluency is given a larger trophy and a cash prize.

Awesome! Congratulations! :D

The other cool benefit of winning IOE is you get a free team entry for another event! :D

I have to upload the photos I have to Image Shack to post.

Apparently there were some Twitter and Instagram posts about us this weekend. We had no idea. We were just racing... When they announced the IOE winner we were all caught by surprise.

'64 Valiant Team Slant 6 #225 car drivers were:

Jason Ernst
Brian Mimken
Adam Portman
Kentucky Poser

We completed 274 laps to finish 47th of 84 with a best lap time of 2:05.298 (Jason)

'64 Dart Team Escape Velocity #13 car drivers were:

Lou Madsen
SpaceFrank
Bob
....?

They completed 356 laps to finish 26th of 84 with a best lap time of 2:07.491 (Lou?)

I'll let Lou and Frank post their adventures chasing the Knoxvegas Lowballers for the C class win.

Congrats on winning IoE! To drive the point home about it being the highest award, the cash prize is $1 more than the highest prize for a class winner, which is Class C. Lemons likes to encourage cars that are on the less-racey side of the spectrum. Also important to note that Jason set that 2:05 fast lap when the Valiant was stuck in 4th gear. (I think the 4-door Dart needs to go on a diet; there's no way in hell we could've lost another 2 seconds without putting Randy Pobst behind the wheel)

The 4th driver in the Dart was Chris from Tetanus Racing; they're the Houston-based team with the 240Z that finished in the top 10 overall, as well as the silver/green BMW E30 and the white Porsche 944. Lou and I actually leapfrogged the fast lap in the Dart every time we drove, but the final fast lap was mine (by maybe 0.2 seconds). That's not to say I'm a faster driver than Lou, just less afraid of breaking my own car.

The judges put the Dart in Class C again since we're running a stock engine, but they gave us 2 penalty laps since we'd won the class before. We thought we had a chance to win on Sunday, but that Knoxvegas TR-8 was just too damn fast. We had no mechanical problems and only one quick penalty stop, but even if we'd run a flawless race and made one less pit stop on Saturday they still would've had enough margin to win. They were literally pacing us for the last hour and a half just to play it conservative. I'm not bent out of shape about it, though; we had no expectation of winning anything when we showed up this weekend. We had a great time driving and hanging out with the rest of you maniacs.

Yeah, great times indeed. I enjoyed driving the Dart and dicing it up with the Valiant on track. More development is coming, to both cars I think... Many thanks to Frank and Escape Velocity racing for the seat in your car, the wrenchin' time, and the fun interactions.

Warm wishes,

Lou

Thanks guys! Definitely a fun weekend.

The IOE was really a surprise to us. Once we gave up on the clutch it was just a part of getting to race. We kinda didn't even think about it anymore.

It was nice to take some time to wargame about the '62 Valiant, which I will now start referring to as the Toad to better distinguish it from the plethora of other Lemons Valiants... :D

Adam and I chatted like school girls the whole 6 hour drive home.

I am now going to focus on getting the Challenger up to Howard's to get it ready for MoKan. The Toad will be in capable hands with Adam and Joe while I'm doing that.

I think we need to paint/stick a toad or 3 onto the 62 and paint "Toadracer" on the side. Looking forward to getting involved in that.

Perhaps a logo inspired by the old SuperBee character logo but with a Toad donning a helmet, goggles and spinning wheels, etc.
