Hello I have an opportunity to buy a T-5 From a 2000 Mustang v-6

Will this tranny perform the same as other ford t-5's behind a slant?

I need to get the numbers off the box and decode them for the gear ratios contained the beast.

also is there any sort of mouting / fitiment issued with the v-6 trans compared to the 5.0 or are they the same?

Thanks!

Greg

The 1999-2001 3.8 V-6 WC Tremec is supposed to be a
1-3.35
2-1.99
3-1.33
4-1.00
5-0.68
With Electronic Speed Sensor

pretty much the same ratios you find in a 1990 5.0L mustang anyway...

We have a yard near my place that has one of the HO mustang boxes with the 2.95/1.94/1.34/1.00/.63 ratios...at $795 I'm passing at the moment I have an A-833OD iron cased box I'll fight the long rpm drops for a while, until the price comes down on it....(sure beats the yard that has one of the corvette 6 speed boxes at $2300...LOL)

Good luck on your search,

-D.Idiot

I don't know about mounting, but would probably be the same as '79-93 V8. Input shaft might be diff length. Should be a strong tranny, esp if price is good ($400 or less?).

There is all kinds of info online about T5s of various types and vintages. Everybody and their dog swaps this trans into different projects.

If DI has the ratios right, those are great for a street car. Those are same ratios as factory std V8 WC T5 for years and years.

I think the input shaft on the V6 T5's is longer then the V8. which is actually a good thing. I had to put an adapter in the crank hub to fit the ford pilot bearing that pushed it out towards the trans roughly 1/2" you shouldn't have to.

Yes, longer input could simplify installation.

Cool..

The seller tells me the input shaft is 10 Spline are there easy clutch options here??

I have a 10" pp and yes lou this woudl be going into my volare EFI street car with a 3.21 Rear so the 3.XX ist gear makes for a 9.6xx First Gear ratio.

Not too bad for the street.

I think the Super Wide ratio 833 - OD is killing my city Mileage now.
Having 4 gears to get to 1.00 Will be nice.

10 spl X 1 1/16" is I think the std T5 input and there are infinite clutch options. I used a stock 10" '87 5.0L disc and mopar PP for about 2 yrs w/no trouble. Started to slip and switched to McLeod 9" setup w/'66 Mustang disc.

Well I picked up the t-5 tonite.. for 200 George Washington's - I love craigslist.
Image

Pictured are the items of concern.

1 input shaft length as compared to an 833 - Next picture (Lou do you have deminsions of the Piliot bearing adapter from the Group Buy deal?? )
OR if a group buy person has one to lend I can get my local machine shop to replicate it.

Image

833 input shaft.
Image

What kind of slip yoke fits here? should I just get a mustang one?? Will it fit up to a mopar u joint?
Image

I probably will need an older tailshaft w/o Electronic Speedo Stuff.
Image

I have searched here on the subject but these are the points that seem to have me hung up.. and found Lou's Links to the .com posts too.

The obvious frame hacking is not an issue for me... I can cut and weld -- YAY. Any further insight is appreciated.

You need a Mustang slip yoke....there are conversion U joints to make it fit your Mopar driveshaft.

I made a input shaft extension to mimic the original trans ...then shrunk/loctited it to the mustang input shaft.

Notice how the clutch disc splines on both trans are the same distance from the mating surface?

What is your clutch plan?

Yeah, what Sandy said. Looks like you could just get a speedo cable with trans end for a 1988 GT 5.0L and with the other end for your Mopar speedo.

Input is actually about 0.4" longer than the V8 WC T5, so you need less of a spacer than the ones I made. Should be perfect. Just make a sleeve to fit a Mustang pilot bearing with the Slant hub OD. Should need to be about 0.6" OAL. That input will protrude slightly into the 225 hub, whereas the 833 goes all the way into the stock pilot bushing, which is deep in there.

Ok,m I can Get a mustang slip yoke no problem... What about this Input shaft bushing adapter What material should it be made of???

Also Where to find the special ford to Mopar u joint?? any part #'s?

Speedometer Cable - Will a ford truck / ranger have the same mechanical end as say an 88 5.0 t-5?? I can than graft one together from the junk yard.

Sandy, The clutch is the least of my concerns.. Lou says that there are ford 10" 10 spline discs out there as well as ford 9" 10 spline which I can use easily.. I can also graft a mopar to ford clutch fork together which will work if I dont want to swap out the bearing retainer.

All the clutch and fork stuff i have been through on the dart so That's why I am much less concerned about that. I have experience there.

Thanks,

Greg

NAPA has the Ujoint

The input adapter can be just simple shafting material. My dad would say monel . I may have made my first one from mild steel.

Does anybody know if all the V8 T5 input shafts are the same length? I have a remedy for running the t5's input shaft and pilot bearing into my crank register, but i need to know if the input shaft on my t5 (out of a 90 mustang) is the same length as the z spec tranny's (ford motorsports version) as the guy who gave me the info did the swap with a z spec tranny
