just passing along what is working for me... when I re newed the 83 D150 back in 2010 I had the A833 tranny gone through by Brewers ATF was what I drained out of the tranny when I pulled it and ATF as specified by the FSM is what went back in. January of 2017 after 21642 miles I changed out the ATF for Redline MT-90 GL-4 fluid the transmission shifted OK with the ATF but I was looking for something better and the Redline MT-90 has good reports in several internet forums. This OD A833 just never shifted well with the MT-90. If I hurried the shift at all, I would get gear clash, especially from 2nd to 3rd. If I shifted slow, like move from first, wait a half second, and pull into second, shift from second, wait,,then push the shifter into third,,, it would shift ok,, felt like I was waiting on the syncro's to align the next gear. I tried improving the adjustment on the shift linkage,, made no difference. I drained out the MT-90 with 9000 miles on it ( yes I have 29630 miles on the D150, my how the miles fly by) and refilled the A833 case with Sta-Lube 85W90 GL-4 Gear Oil. This is what I was after, shifts real nice, the next gear just clicks in place. No waiting. I found the Sta-Lube at NAPA, was $35.00 a gallon, but well worth it. |

Good to know, and thanks for sharing. I'll be installing the same tranny, also newly rebuilt, in the near future. |

Cheap GL-5 was good shifting, but RedLine MT-90 gave excellent shifting. This was with a standard A833 however. And it had never been overhauled. |
