It's really starting to slip now.

I bought the current setup from Steve Magnante back in 2001. It's the parts he used in his Slant Sickness article for Hot Rod Mag.

I think it's an odd bunch of parts.

V8 billet flywheel slightly redrilled for /6
10" 23 spline Clutch
Pressure plate from a Ford something

Time to shop before the racing season

If you have a part# for the Ford Pressure plate that would sure help. McLeod had great stuff, but it is getting harder and harder to put something together that will last in drag race form and not fly apart. That is why I am going 10 1/2" V8 stuff. I am guessing your V-8 flywheel is for a 273 that had the smaller clutch in it like a slant 6? You could ask them about rebuilding yours too.

Thanks Rick. Didn't even think about having them rebuild it. I'll ask about it. It's been great but if you remember, In Clay City my son (Who will remain nameless :evil: ) made a pass with the E brake on. I think he fried it and my rear brakes.

Hoping to get his 65 barracuda together for some races this year. Let him burn out his own clutch!! :D

Like Rick said it looks like your set up was based on the small diameter 273 flywheel that would be necessary to work with the stock slant 6 bellhousing and starter. Somehow they drilled it for a 10" pressure plate from another application that might still be available, there should be someway of determining where it came from by the bolt pattern on the pressure plate. 10" discs are readily available and it you don't want to use the stock lining you could have it relined with Kevlar or metal pucks. At the same time the flywheel register was brought up to V8 size they also fitted later 273s with the same flywheels as 318s and 340s which takes the 10 1/2" clutch you are looking at. You can only use that one with a slant 6 by adapting to a V8 bellhousing and a later flywheel. I suspect you also have the small diameter crank register which would require an expensive custom made flywheel. I found that a beefed up 9 1/4 pressure plate like McLeod used to sell and a Kevlar lined 9 1/4 disc works very well as long as you can keep your foot off the clutch pedal or try to run with the Ebrake on!

That clutch would probably be great but I'm sure that it does not come in the Slant 6 pattern. Call there tech line and ask them how to identify what you have. They may still make it.

I did a Clutch install writeup a few years back based on the Magante Article and parts that you have:
This was back in 2012, and Part Numbers are no longer easily sourced from McLeod..

I actually have 2 cars with that setup - the 69 Dart with Lots of drag strip passes 2005-2009 and My Disco Duster 2012-Present Lots of Street miles and hill starts, but No Dragstrip Work.

I think the one Greg is showing might be the one that fits your flywheel. Although Ford uses a 1"X23 spline input shaft the splines are not cut the same as the Mopar 1"X23 and their disc might not slide onto your input shaft. McLeod used to make 1"X23 spline disc that would slide on either but I am not sure the Centerforce disc would.

McLeod offered to give me an RA so I could ship my setup to them so they could try and duplicate it. I don't know what the whole things weighs but shipping from NC to Ca wouldn't be cheap. I'm willing to try the Ford Ranger setup. A bolt in swap would be nice.

I've got a modified bellhousing to accept a T5. Lou had a few make 10 years ago. It's sitting in my basement. The OD would really be nice. (3.23 gears now) Maybe I'll just do the whole thing at once. Don't have the trans yet. I know it's a whole different discussion but any advice on sourcing a T5.

I have 2 early 833's I could probably sell one for enough do the conversion.

Yeah. Doing a burnout and a 1/4 mile pass with the eBrake on did it in. Otherwise it probably would have lasted years. Live and learn. It was his first Bracket pass so I'll let it go. I don't want to discourage him. It was a fun day for us. I have the DrDiff Mustang rear disc conversion (8 3/4). Didn't seem to do any damage to the brakes. Amazing.

Good luck, Mike. Guess we won't see you at the VA race...

Best option, if affordable, on the T5 is to buy new from Summit or similar (around $1900 now - yikes gone up!). The used ones are $300+ for a core, then rebuilding is almost always needed. You might get lucky on a used one, but who knows. Looks like you might get a refurbished one for ~$1000 incl core charge?

Looks like I'm not gonna make a single race this season. Work is busy. More money for parts. I'll shoot for next year. I'm really trying to get a garage built this year. Tired of working on a car port or in the dirt.

I used the V8 (5.0L) version, and that is strongest one they sell new to my knowledge. There are other trannys out there that might work, but you will be engineering things...
