Hooking up a new shifter to my slant powered hot rod and wanted to clarify what the shift pattern/order was for the 904 trans. Starting with the shift lever on the trans all the forward should this be the order for each detent (click) the lever moves back
First, Second, Drive, Nuetral, Reverse, Park

When I get back to park the lever will move back a little further but springs back forward if I let it go. When the car is in park should the shift lever on the trans be pulled all the way back or just at rest without tension?

Thanks
Gene

It should be at rest without tension.

My guess is you have the parking pawl on a cog and that's why it want to spring back. Think of how you can put the car in Park then it will roll a little until it catches.

Try rotating the output shaft a bit then try again.
