Question for someone, I have an A833 OD (behind my slant) with the interlock lever cover (later style) and my reverse switch isn't activating because the reverse interlock link isn't hitting it. When I popped the cover off it was jammed up on the shift lever not coming down. My question is the notch in it supposed to be hitting/riding on the shift lever or hitting/riding on the built in casting near the shift lever (see pic).

I always thought the reverse lights on the 833 were activated by the reverse gear slider sliding / rotating back and depressing the ball on the switch.. Maybe the interlock style cover activates differently somehow?

It has been a while since I was inside an 833 so I might be a bit foggy here.

OD interlock cover is quite a bit different from the Rooster Style.
I wish I could help you, but I don't have one here to look at and figure out.

No worries was just seeing if someone knew. I'll probably give them a call here to see what their take is on it.

What years of the 833 of had that interlock style cover?
I have one that's marked (junkyard tag) as having come out of an 81 truck, would it be that style?
The 80 my son had, didn't have it.
Wasn't that style the wines that you had to either pull up or push down on the shifter lever to get reverse? I remember some of the Turismo"a and omni's were like that (and I know nothing from those wrong wheel drive cars would interchange with our trucks, duh)

Ok I have 2 different OD side covers here.
Date code 76-77 and an 83-84 cover.
The interlocks are quite different.
Yours is the 80 style with the separate reverse lamp lever.
I removed the guys from inside.

I was trying to modify one to use with an earlier style 4 speed.
I gave up.

Wish I could be more help.
Holler if you have question, I have some parts in the parts box.

No worries that modified one is a neat idea, wonder if you could make the rooster tail work with that. I was able to figure it out finally. It rides up on the shifter lever when in reverse/sits in the seat of the reverse lever. When you come out of reverse into say 1st the lever pushes/moves inside that notch and it flops back down with the reverse gear. Mine (i dont know why) was jammed tight up on the casting so it wouldn't come down (it cleared the lever just enough to where it didn't hang up the lever/cause shifting issues. I had to take a file and massage the casting so it doesnt hange up and flops down on its own without the reverse gear holding it up.

No way to make the rooster style work.
I was trying to save a pound and gave up to use the old style steel cover.
Glad you got yours working!
