I've got a stone stock 70 Challenger with a manual trans and a /6. It's coming apart for a resto, and everyone I know gives me flak about putting the slant back in since I have 2 nice complete 340's lying around. I never had a /6 car, but planned on increasing the c.r. by milling the head, putting on dutra duals, and increasing cam and carb (don't know about a 2 or 4 barrel yet). Also thought about swapping in an OD 4 speed for the 3 speed. Give me some encouragement and idea of performance! I'd like to suprise some of the "non believers" and hope I am on the right path. Thanks.

I think Doc used to sport an E-body with a six (hafta check the archives). Slant Six e-bodies are rarer than any of the V-8 cars except for say the Hemi cars...Is it a hardtop or convertible?
depending upon what you want out of it, yo should be able to get some ideas of a great build-up from this site.

Welcome to the slanted realm, and it's cool to see you don't want to be like all the "V-8" guys, ya gotta have one car that's totally different from the rest and fun too...

If you haven't scored your A-833OD yet, B/E and truck trannies are similar (I notice some of the OD truck trannies have some of the shift position bolts not machined). You can score them from any 1975-1987 truck or van, it would also be cool if you can disguise it with a pistol grip shifter...

Keep the slant Dale! I would much rather see a slant powered Challenger than a big block one any day! Anybody can make power with a small block or big block, its much more fun to do it with a slant. Plus, you have a lot of people here and www.slantsix.com to help you out. Keep your car happy, and keep its original heart in, it will thank you many times over....Check out my slant powered B body, that way you know why I like different!:)

My slant Challenger is a stripper hardtop. I originally bought it for a parts source to fix my convert (the convert has been hit). However, I kinda' fell in love with the simplicity of this car. I found the build sheet and fender tag. I never saw such a plain car --- not ONE option EXCEPT extra cost paint (FJ5 sublime). And, that's the way I want it to stay.

Yep, that is what we did to a somewhat worn 70 Challenger convert. my older brother Steve bought. We put a 833 pistol grip & 8 3/4 in place of the 3 on the floor and 7 1/4, the swap was a super-easy bolt-in. The car came alive when we put some 3.91 gears in the butt. (bone stock 1 bbl slant)

Later my younger brother Mark got the car and did a "knock-off" RT treatment to it. (Ralley hood, wheels and the red paint with the black hood)
He also swapped to a supersix 2 bbl.

My sister Lori ended-up with the car and as of late, it's having some problems. (noisy tranny and a leaking water pump & power steering box)
I always loved the looks you get driving the RT Challenger, everyone would Ohooo & Ahwwww and steer clear thinking you were packing a V8!
Maybe I need to borrow the car for a while, just to do some maintainance work of course! ; - )

You don't see too many slant six E-bodies. I don't have production numbers, but I wouldn't be surprised if they built more 340 Challengers than 225 Challengers. And it's even more likely that there are more 340 Challengers around today than slant six ones. So a slant six Challenger would certainly be unique.

I've got a lot of people telling me to just put a 360 in my Dart instead of trying to make a turbo 225. I respond that I've got an overly developed sense of "different." And a turbo 225 is definitely different. At the Mopar club meetings I've been to, I've seen a one of seven '71 Hemi Cuda convertable (Ok, there are probably more than seven running around now, but they only built seven to start with!), an original General Lee, several other Hemi cars, a Shelby Dakota, and a Dakota with the back half of an A100 grafted on... but no turbocharged slant sixes.

Dale! Straighten that spine and walk tall & proud about your decision. Stay the course. When you get done, you'll be able to surprise the non-believers.

Where about are you located? If you get real serious about the four-gear swap, I've got one that I have no use for, that I could give you a good price on. The only problem might be the shipping.......I'm in Iowa
