hello, I am swapping out the holley and installing a 600hp PA Fitech on my slant. seeing that trying the stock electronic distributor may be problematic. what are you guys running? looking at adding some boost ( hopefully later this year ). Thanks! |

So you would need to lock a standard distributor (points or e!ectronic) or use a lean burn distributor. |

FiTech is plug and play with a MSD Distributor. However MSD doesn't make one for the slant 6. I purchased a MSD Distributor for the Chevy V6 and modified it to where I could use it. Not too hard to do, just a little lathe work. Took me a few hours to make it work and work well it does. It is a pretty tight fit and to make access easier I relocated the oil filter for more room. Engine runs fine but still doing finishing touches on narrowing Ford rear and moving springs a bit to fit larger tires and rims. I'm old and slow and in no hurry these days. |

The GM distributor sounds interesting. What exactly did you do with the lathe? Does the chevy cam gear work or did you machine it to accept a slant six nylon gear? I am thinking of going this route eventually so I am curious exactly what you did. Brandon |

Basically I had to shorten the V6 distributor by about 7 inches, Used the lathe to make the cuts and used the lathe to make the new o-ring groove where it needed to be. The shaft on the v6 Distributor was is the same diameter as the slant six so shortening and repinning the slant six gear was done on the shaft. To get the correct length I built an adjustable stop collar for the now shortened v6 distributor. I'll see if I can find any pictures. |

pic's would be awesome. from some of my reading the OE electronic distributor doesn't play well with the FiTech. I may give it a go and see if I can get it to work. just trying to get my ducks in a row before adding some boost. so far I am really digging the FiTech, drivability is great, start ups hot or cold are great. |

First is the amount taken out of the original distributor. Second just shows the distributor (MSD) in place. I don't have any of the distributor out of the engine. Sorry It can be done quite easily. Just match the dimensions of your stock distributor. |

I'm using the FiTech 30003 400HP 4bbl TBI system with my slant's electronic ignition (mopar dizzy and ECU, flamethrower coil, spring kit in dizzy to get a bit more advance early) and it works fine. The Fitech needs some fine tuning on deceleration, but otherwise it starts easy, is responsive on acceleration, works well on the V6 setting. I have the 600PA version, was hoping to use the timing control when I get around to adding boost. I would agree, runs great drivability has improved greatly for me. never was able to get the 450 holley right, either accel would be good, cruise would be good or light accel would be good. never could get it good. now its all good, the more I drove it the better it got. honestly forgot how fun a little slant could be to cruise. |

Apologies for pulling up an older post. Did you have any engine work done to make that 600PA work with the slant? I’m looking at putting a 440 in my Scamp but that’s a a couple of years from now. Thinking if I buy the Fitech 600 or 600pa now I can just move it over to the 440 and have some fun and good drive ability for the time being. Thanks |
