Post subject:  Timing marks are gone

Thanks in advance for your help (no pun intended) On my 1987 Dodge D-100 the timing mark lines are visible, but no numbers to tell where I am. I bought the Chrysler service manual in hopes there would be a pic, but it too has cryptic symbols. There are 10 lines, but where is Zero? in the middle, on the top? Also it is supposed to be timed to 12 or 18 BTDC for manual or auto trans, so how are 12 degrees of timing going to help me on a scale of 10? Do I just imagine that 12 is two imaginary tics past the end of the marks? Thanks. Vera.

Welcome to the forum! It's a great place to be.
Good timing (again with the puns), I just happen to have a recent pic of my timing tab of which I had just finished freshening up the numbers on.

It looks to have the same shape as the one on your engine, just with the engraved numbers. The lines are 2 degree increments.
Anyway, I hope this helps!

Thanks SO much! I scoured the internet for days, bought books and manuals looking for a picture of what you just sent.

I'm glad for this thread, as I needed the same info. My tab is knackered as well. I actually purchased a decent tab for my D150 on ebay about 6 months ago. Then it promptly disappeared at home never to be found. I didn't have it long enough to really take a look at the markings. I was going to try to glue a piece of timing tape on the tab for the correct diameter dampener. I still may do that if I ever get a chance to verify true TDC.
