So, I have an ammeter that is out of the circuit since I have a trunk mounted battery and a 100 amp alternator. And a non working speedometer. And a junkyard speedometer that is even less working. So I was thinking about creating a set of digital gauges. Here's a mock up of what this might look like:

The idea is to be able to replace only the gauges while leaving all the rest of the dash 100% stock, including the front layer with the speedometer markings.

an easy way to drive an electronic speedometer is with a VSS from a late 80's mopar.
screws into the existing cable speedometer drive on a 727/904/a833 transmission and gives a two wire output.
Will also provide the speed signal for cruse control.
I installed one on the 83 D150 when I swapped in the '89 dash with the electric driven speedometer and added cruse control.

Nice find! I had been planning to keep the odometer and put a sensor where the drag cup was, but that may be better.

there is an earlier version that retains the cable drive with the electronic output.

I used a Dakota digital box that gives me Satellite / GPS Speed Signals - I use it to drive the stock mechanical Speedo on my '64 as there was no access to the cable drive on the T5 that I installed when it was in the car.

You could simplify your install with that box I think, as it can be calibrated to be dead nuts on... and when you change tire sizes / gears etc it's still calibrated.

Here is the box

It works immensely better with the antenna (I feel it should be included.)
