I need a pretty big cam as I am doing a race motor to stick into my lancer gt.

I see the cams that Clifford has but none of them state the Lobe Separation. I need a min of 110 but prefer a 114 as this motor will have a good size turbo on it...

The general consensus is that Clifford is old and outdated on cam choices, Define big cam because most turbo theory and information has concluded that mild cams with a higher lsa work better for turbo setups such as the erson cam i'm using 220@ .50 114lsa 464lift. Lou has talked to the drakes "I believe" and they ran the fastest with a mild duration cam as well as many others. What size turbo?

Will be a studded and oringed block, ported head GT45 turbo with a 650 double pumper. Trans will have a brake and a 3500 converter.

Car weight is 2560lbs.. Will run 3:55 gears with a 28" tire..

I was thinking of something in the 550 lift range with a lsa of 114.. May have to get hughs to regrind one for me...

The fastest guys (10s, 9s) have run 0.460" or smaller cams with 110-114 LSA and 220-230 @ 0.050" duration. Just sayin...

Hughes would not be my choice for a slantcam.....they know squat about slants.

Hughes is not a cam grinder either. You can get good work for a good price at Oregon Cam Grinding, but just as with Hughes or anyone else YOU have to provide good specs to get an appropriate cam. I would not run more than 230° duration at .050" lift nor try to exceed .500" lift.

So am looking at getting a camshaft ground, are the above specs still the current thinking? Have sent a email away to my camshaft shop for his thoughts. My build can be found in the socal section under "guidos turbo ve"

I am about to order a turbo cam or two. I will get Oregon cams lobe number 1947 intake and either 819 or 2106 exhaust with a 114 LSA. That is my best current thinking. Howards has one for sale too that looks nice - 220/215 int/exh duration @ 0.050" and 113 or 114 LSA. All around 0.470" lift on int and 0.440" exh.

What sort of intake center line would you run with these wide LSA cams?

That is a great question, and I am still contemplating and reading up on this. I guess I would say around 100-106 right now. Get the intake valve closed early...? Anyone else with thoughts on this?

Hey am interested in knowing more about the howards cam, is that a listed camshaft? As i could not find it on their web page.

Also i have noticed even a replacement cam having a power band of say 1800-5600rpm, is not 5600rpm getting a bit much for 225? Eg- the bigger of the two howards cams listed.

Any powerband for a NA motor cam will not apply to a turbo application. I found that cam in Howard's online catalog about 2 months ago.

5600 is an OK redline (or a bit high) for a well built stock type engine. Much higher than 5500 and you are playing with fire. This assumes rebuilt rods, good cast pistons, bearing clearances that are not too tight, good oil pressure, etc...

Ok got a email back from my grinder.

Intake duration @.050" 220° exhaust duration @.50" 220° and valve lift@ 1.5 rockers .450" for both. What are the thoughts? He has this as a master. Oh and is on a 114 lsa
