Okay so i am very inexperienced with turbos. I am considering rebuilding my motor and making it a turbo motor. i was thinking around 10ish pounds of boost maybe a little more. i will probably make an exhaust manifold. Ill rum a blow thru carb. Ill port the head and install bigger valves. im looking for 300-400 hp. What turbo would you reccomend. any cam? any pistons? i have a forged crank.
Thanks
casey

Well if you are in Lancaster Pa

you are in luck!

Come see some of us at Carlisle. or the Mason - Dixon Slant 6 Race in Boonsboro MD - May 22-23 2017 - you needent race..if you dont want to. There is a swap and show Sunday as well as the racing. you can just hang and pick the brains of Lou and Thomas - They have turbo cars and will most likely be there.

I dont have a turbo car, but will be happy to chat at the race as needed.

Not real sure on making a recommendation for a turbo but I run a WH1C from a 6bt cummins. Lil late to spool but have run 10# of boost for a good year and love it. Im sure others with more experience will be by soon and give better number but Im gonna say youll need about 15# of boost to make the 400 mark. I could be wrong as i have been before.

Take your time
Gather parts
Read read read
Then go in stages

And most of all have fun.
(Lots of fun making v8's look bad with a slant 6, their faces are priceless)

I'd love to chat. I will try my hardest to make it there on the 20th. I was thinking today about my situation and I would like to use a mostly stock motor and "slap" a turbo on. Just a streetable car. The closer to 300hp the better. Maybe a cam swap and intake possibly head work. I don't know if I should use an intercooler. And I think I'd go with a blow they Holley 4bbl. How much boost can a stock motor take.
Thanks for the replies

My bottom end is stock (rebuild to stock specs in 1989, with 175k miles on that), but has some head work. Turbo on top of it all, so far up to 14 psi with only one blown head gasket in 2013 when I was pushing the ign timing advance under boost in hot weather. It is EFI, which makes tuning a snap. Carb would be harder, but with a WB O2 sensor, things shouldn't be too bad.

my motor is pretty much stock now as well. never been rebuilt but has 59,000 original miles. it runs great so if i run 10ish psi i feel i should be safe. Does anybody disagree. i was thinking of running a turbo similar to the buick grand national turbo. i found some online for just under 600$. said they were good for 550hp. i doubt thats true but they arent quite the 100$ ebay turbos. If i ran a BLowthrough carb how many cfm should it be for my stock motor. i think i saw a 500cfm but most are 600cfm or more. I was thinking of running an intercooler. is it worth it with just 10psi. should i go with an air intercooler or a water/alcohol intercooler. thanks for the help
