I would definitely not be opposed to doing an M body. If we had the rest of a Dippy to go off of, that'd be a fine choice. I'd really like it to be a slant though.

I read on allpar.com that Dippies were basically Aspens with different skin. Do you know if any of those parts would swap out?

As far as I know the whole front clip should be a bolt in. Would just have to make the mounts work, or transfer all the components to a slant six Volare "K" member that is also in stock.

OK guys, somebody come up with a car for free.

What value do you think thy would put on a Corvair turbo charger?

They're a sharp bunch. I doubt that would slip by their legendary "B.S." inspection. Still, I've seen some pretty crazy turbo rides make it into races. Just check out some of Jalopnik's coverage of the events here to see what kind of rides actually sneak by the judges.

And yes, good people of slantsix.org. A free car would be a wonderful donation to the cause. We are still eager to add team members and drivers as well. It'd be really cool to have a .org themed car with members chipping in.

Diplomat, Aspens, and Volares are all the same chassis, but different skin. I do't know why the Aspens and Volares are F bodies but the LeBarons and Diplomats are M bodies and the Cordobas and Imperials are J bodies. All chassis and interior components interchange. The 89 cop front suspension will bolt to a 76 Volare or Aspen. You could probably cut and weld the motor mount ears to put a six on the cop k-frame. But you would want to keep the solid body isolator that the cop car came with (if they are still present).

You could always build a Fantasy Island replica car:

Clearly an F-body wagon.

I,m not trying to "slip it by". Since the Corvair turbo's were made by Raja, and have been obsolete and and not available new for over 20 years, and I have a couple used ones in stock. I was wondering if they would have a low enough cost factor to be viable.

Speaking hypothetically, were one to magically turn up in a junkyard, it would be billed the same as a Lebaron turbo. I'm sure we could get by with it if we calculated it at a junkyard cost.

There's nothing in the rules that says you can't use parts already in your possession. There are teams that have successfully submitted cars with entire engines that they either had lying around or were purchased for suspiciously low prices.

If we want to do this legit, and I think we should, we could justify them as used parts and expense it as what it would cost if you just happened to find any random turbo in the U-Pull It on half-off day. I've heard of stranger junkyard finds.

And Lou said, a lot of teams pull some strange stuff to get rock-bottom prices on things. I think if we did use anything from anyone's existing stash, we could label expenses similarly to your '66 Valiant project and still do OK.

My plans to go watch the Yeehaw It's Texas Lemons race (Houston, this weekend) have been scuttled. Family stuff, can't do both. :(

Now I have my eye on the Chump Car race at Texas Motor Speedway next June.
