Another project? How many is that?
Instead of you working for "Uncle", you need to get "Uncle" working for you.

I posted my list several years ago and made everyone feel better about their own insanity. My list has changed quite a bit since then, but it’s still stupid. I’ll have to dig up that original list and compare.

Remember, I’m just a Poser... :D

I found my last list. It’s on page 3-4 of the GodsRods Duster II thread.

Some are gone. Others still around.

I count somewhere around 11 “projects”...

81 Challenger - Slant 6 drag car
73 Duster - GodsRods II Slant 6 drag car
76 Duster - Dennis’ Dormant Duster, Slant 6
72 Dart - 318 now, originally Slant 6
61 Valiant - street car Slant 6
62 Valiant - Lemons hopeful Slant 6
56 truck - long dormant
84 Turismo - RWD converted Slant 6 dormant drag car
83 Van - Slant 6 / 4 speed OD currently storing parts
Ginetta G20 - former UK championship basket case
Locost - homebuilt frame project

The list changes... life goes on. 7 of 11 are Slanted.

Crazy list! You are definitely a Slant Sixer. Can't wait to see the Chal or D'sters on the track!

Challenger is still #1 priority. With the Duster as #2 to make it to some races.

You can’t pass up the opportunity when your son wants to work with you and teach you something that he’s into. It was a great weekend.

With four sons there is often competition and/or comparison of one sort or another.

One of which is “things in common with Dad.” Mike and I are Fiddlers... :D

I flew back from DC this afternoon (Boy, are my arms tired!)

Went and got some more MIG gas, just in case...

And stopped by O’Reilly’s to borrow their seal driver set.

Got the axle seals put in the 8 3/4. I’ll get the diff and axles in this weekend. Maybe even tonight!

You're the only guy I know that would let an Irishman talk you into letting a seal drive your Race Car...

And I am having problems getting just the one project done....

"Done" is a fictional word, when it comes to modified/old cars. "Running" is more aptly used if the car can be driven and/or raced. None of my cars will ever be "done" or even close to "it". When one or more does not run, then I often get antsy, although that changes with mood, free time, etc...

Well,... I did make some progress on the Challenger this weekend...

I got the rear end back together, but had to take the new axle back out. :(

Unfortunately, the rear wheels on the Challenger are 5X4.75” bolt pattern instead of my assumption that they were 5X4.5”. Who woulda thunk that this poor little “Identity Challenged” Dodge (Mitsubishi  ) Challenger would be further hindered by having Chevy bolt pattern axles in it!? :?

I’ll look for a local machine shop that can hopefully just add the second bolt pattern. More to follow on that one. Here is the side that will stay in. New bearing and seal. The center section also has a new pinion seal. The “before” pic shows several years of accumulated rubber. I weighed it and estimate I got about 3 pounds out of there.

Every few minutes I make a little progress. Granted, it is only “Poser Progress”, but it keeps me entertained.

While I still had some time to fiddle I started looking at how I can re-mount the alcohol fuel cell and replace the grill with something better that will seal off the front of the car and offer better aerodynamics. There is also some decent weight savings to be had by removing the grill, brackets and what’s left of the radiator support. I can easily replace the support with lightweight aluminum tube. It only mounts the front of the fenders and grille at this point.

I use that same scale for stuff under 11lbs. I weigh EVERYTHING on my car. (You never know where reductions can come from).
As for the front, flat sheet of aluminum, an air brush, and you should be good to go.

Aluminum is another option. I've got a friend that is good with fiberglass. We will see. Thanks. I plan to have it look like a new Challenger in the front. I'll probably go down to a sign & graphics shop with a photo of a new Challenger grill and say, "Make me one of these to fit these measurements." :D

Stealing Dennis' (slantzilla's) quote again:

"The best way to remove 100 pounds from a race car is to look in 1,600 places and remove an ounce."

I've removed several little "low hanging ounces" and even a couple pounds already, with more easily in sight... Now if I could just focus on making the silly thing RUN!

*** I like this new photo link option, but I'm not sure why it rotates some of the photos... :?
