Bren,

I Set the inital at 12* and it Maxes out at 32* or so Degrees if I remember Correctly.

I replaced the Heavy spring with a red spring - Lightweight - from an assortment of springs from an old mr. gasket Advance kit - I believe it was for a sb Chevy - but all the light weight springs serve tha same purpose.

I am not sure what the govener limits the timing at - I never checked it. The light weight spring gets all the advance in by 2300-2500 rpm.

I do not use the vacum can and the dist is an early slant one with the Little oil Tube on the side -- Like you would see on a furnas motor or something.

I would guess it is a 62 or eariler piece, and I took off the goofy double slotted plate on the bottom and replaced it with the adjustment mechanisim from a late 70-s early 80-s volare slant - It 's like a v-8; you can turn the distrubitor until the vacum can hits something for infinte adjustment.

Well Another Impessive Fuel Milage Trip using my Overdrive 833 along with the 4.10 Rear - 22.8 Mpg!! at 75 - 80 MPH.

I will have to soon get a t-5 So I can stop the Transmission Swap.

I also Did a Dyno Jet Chassis Dyno Pull.

Here are the results:

Peak Values are as follows:
RWHP - 184.5
RWTQ - 217.2
According to My calculations using a Factor of 1.21 - that equates to:
223 Hp at The crank, and 262 Ft/Lbs an the Crank, Similar to findings Here:
http://www.slantsix.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=18685

Gettin ready for martin Now starts with another 833 Tranny Swap.

Based on that, I'd say you should be shifting around 5500-5700 RPM to get best average power. Nice work!

Lou, I have benn playing around with Shift Points, as I do this old school, with no Shift light or anything...
I just like to make me as consistent as possible, and it takes practice. I have been Shifting second and third around 5800 Now, as I knew even Before The dyno Pulls that The Engine was flat after 5800 Rpm's But For some reason It seems to Feel I still get something out of it By taking first gear to 6000 or 6200, I still havent had time to Expirment with Lower Shifts for first gear.

Enough Run - on Sentences Here.

Cheers!

Greg

It's not unusual to have a higher shift point in the lower gears. :D

No shift light? I run my red car with just a shift light and no tach. I used to race a drag bike with no tach or light. Shifted purely by feel.

Well I Got a total of 9 Runs in at Martin, Which I must say is a fabulous facility, Probably A close Second to Bristol Or Norwalk.

Anyway, I met Some local Slant 6 guys at the race, and I also Met Dennis Shumers (sp?) AKA Slantzilla - We takled about some slants and other stuff while we were there, and I now can appericiate the power of the "bottle" as Demonstrated by Slantzilla's Red car - Really wakes up a stock Motor.

They had A Scale there, so I weighed My car - It comes in at 3380# - Quite Heavy - But I already Knew that.

Of the 9 Runs I had, I Had Posted a New Best time of:

14.79 @ 93.56 MPH
Wow! the car is in the 14:70's Now!
I did Chage to some alumnium Sprint 14X7's For the Rear, Which Gave me alot more Rubber on the ground and Really slowed down my reaction times!

I did no have a good light all weekend, and That was true for my first Round loss too, I had a .442 Light. - Ouch

Thanks! Greg

Yes it can be done, With help from this site, and given some paitence.

My car With just the bolt on etc. Probably ran in the 18:00 Second Range - I ran it on the 1/4 Mile for the first Time with no head work and a 4.10 Rear. Now it runs 14:79 With Paitence and tuning.

Looks good. We would like to make the Nats @ National Trails. That use to be home turf for us we both moved here from Ohio. Lived in Newark and did all the communications work for the track in the mid thru the late 80's.
One of my Son's still lives there and Mother-in-law as well. But its a LONG haul.
We will see...we should get to meet at Bowling Green, or Wilksboro.
Keep on Slantin,
Frank

Thanks Frank, I usually don't have the Car out at the track During the Nats, but I Definitely will will have it at the Chrysler classic race in May @ NTR. My work schedule usually only permits me to go to the nats for 1 day anyway - But The may gig is an easy one!!

Thanks, and Blast me A PM if you think we might Cross paths!!

Well it was about the first nice day of 2008 where I didn't have to work and could get the car out for some youtube video footage! It was also nice to drive it and log in a few miles!!
