Car made 3 runs down the strip today and drove back on the trailer by itself. Mainly I was happy to make 3 WOT passes without any hiccups from the oil pump. Everything seemed to work just fine. I have 48 pounds at idle and 75 at 6000 RPM.

Car ran 13.30, 13.32, 13.43 in 85 degree temps and 90% humidity. I would like to have made some changes but I got there late and they were running the rounds so fast I just left it as it came off the trailer. A/F ratio was 13.4-13.6 so that will need a little tweak. I wanted to play with the timing but just didn't have the chance. I need to have a little more practice with this combo. I had 2 red lights, a .017 and a .020 so I need to slow down the launch just a whisker.

I will likely try and get my 4.30's into the car for the Wilkesboro races. We shall see how that works! :D :D

Sounds like a good shakedown, Rick. You will make it into the 12s, but I see some carb and ign tuning in your future. I see the 4.30s being good for maybe 0.1 sec.

I picked up a full second on mine with just simple tuning. You should be able to make it in the 12's easy enough.

Wilkesboro is a good place to get some extra runs in and do some tuning. And even the 4.56 would be Ok for the 1/8 mile

Little more richer on the 6 main jets and you can try to slow down on the light or try just flickering the bottom bulb or launch 100 rpm less on the converter.

Alternativley you can do that same starting line song and dance at wilkesboro and it might be fine due to the differences in rollout from the 2nd beam to the 3rd beam from track to track.

Congrats!

Greg

Well, I installed the "Seymour's good air tune" into my Webers tonight. That should richen up my mixture a bit. If the stars all align I will load up again in the morning and head to Mason Dixon and try and get some more runs. I broke a fan belt and have to pick that up at 7:30AM and then install it which is not as easy as it used to be since I have a oil pump belt in front of it.
Mason Dixon is hosting the Rockin Chair nationals, Nostalgia drags. My car is definitely old enough to fit in! I tell myself it is just a chance to learn how not to red light. If I win a round it is just a bonus! :D :D

Went to the track and there must have been 200 cars there! Super nice day for the track and I had to park just inside the gate. There was no parking anywhere. Car was ready, went through tech and they called my class to the lanes. Drove up and got in line. Looked to be more than 40 in the class. All excited, but calm excited! Until I put my helmet on and went to start the car. No ignition!!! You got to be kidding me. Nope, no fire. I ended up being towed back to the pits and never even got to make a run. Very disappointed. :( :(

Came home and found a broken wire inside the coil plug. (I am running the Ford TPI coil) It looks like the wire was crimped to far and the wire was broken off, probably from vibration. anyway, it is all fixed up and ready to go. I did drive it down the road and A/F seemed to be about 11.7-11.8 I think I will run it like that once at Wilkesboro and then adjust if needed. If we have some cool night air it may be close.

Cue the creepy Twilight Zone music...

Man, that is no fun. Time to bring a pile of replacement parts and we can fix whatever happens at Wilkesboro!!

Look at the bright side. Happened close to home, and not at Wilkesborro.

Yes they are! :D :D I guess I will just chalk this up to a practice- "Load and unload"

Had plenty of spare parts at home. They will all be coming to Wilkesboro.

I decided to enter the Top ET last week at Wilkesboro mainly to see if my car was going to be ok after installing a new electromotive ignition system. Something was wrong with my ignition at Mason Dixon. I was lucky to win a single round as it kept getting slower each pass. With the new ignition installed it sounded great in the garage and the two pre race test runs it ran sweet. Dialed it in for first round. It felt great again coming off the line pulling the wheels then-------- popping and cracking like crazy all the way to the 1/8 marker and it stalled. (so embarrassing). Then had to be towed back to the pits. Yes Lou key the twilight zone music again. I checked a few things at the track no luck. Pushed it in the trailer and took it home. Back in the garage on Monday I found the crank sensor had come loose. I simply set the gap and hit the starter and it is fixed. I felt bad not being able to at least have the opportunity to trailer one of those quick top et rail cars, but on the other hand I am glad it happened before our slant race. I guess that is why it is always good to test after making changes. So Rick I know how you feel when things don't go as planned.

Ron
