I have been chugging along on the car. The seat is now mounted to the new aluminum brackets. The dash has been stripped bare along with one door. They along with the front splash pan and some small parts are heading to the paint shop on Monday. I also rebuilt the door hinges just for fun.

I figured if there is a remote chance of me making it to Mason Dixon with it, the windshield would need to be in, which means the dash needs to be in first. So I will have the car in primer with a nice new shiny black dash in place. That will look cool. Once I drop these off it is on to the other door and trunk lid. Hear are some pictures:

I want to thank Slantzilla for giving me a great deal on a B&M shifter for the car which I really needed. I also came into a nice large battery for free which will be mounted in the trunk. While looking through some boxes of parts which have about 3 different wiring harneses in them, I found a good slip yoke for the automatic tranny. All my drivelines for my 4-speeds are for the flanged output transmissions. So I may need to find a good shaft to go with the yoke. Unless Ryan has one of mine??? Oh son of mine....! :D

Keepin at it,

Rick

I would have to look but I think with a 8 3/4 in the valiant it is 49 1/4 or 49 1/2". Not positive. And since the motor and tranny aren't in I can't measure it.

Hey Dennis, do you Know what length the driveshaft was in your 66? It would be the same.

49.5 seems about right. I haven't looked at it for a while though.

Why Cant you just measure the Distance from the Tranny mount on the Transmission to the end of the trans and then Measure from the Yoke on the Rear end to the Tranny Mount . Cross member in the car

Subtract the Trans Mount to End of the Tranny measurement.

- That will give you the dimension you need.

Well,

I found a new transmission mount in my "stuff" and I mounted it and the crossmember to the transmission. I slid the yoke that I have into the transmission as far as it would go and pulled it out just to where the dust boot on the rear seal looked like it was riding. (This was about 1" out) The measurement from the edge of the crossmember back to the centerline of the front u-joint was 10 1/8". Went under the car and measured from the crossmember in the car to the centerline of the rear u-joint and I get 60" even. Subtracting the two it looks to be about 49 7/8". The reality is that could be off a 1/4 either way. There is about 3/8" of play in the transmission mount front to rear depending on where the engine winds up. Plus the pinion angle has not been set so that could change slightly.

So the length that I got over at FABO of 49 1/2" could easily be correct.

My only real question is how far out the yoke should be out of the rear of the transmission. Does 1" seem about right?

If anyone has a cheap driveline even if it needs shortened close to me in Southen PA, let me know.

Rick
