I agree entirely. I can't justify why I don't have one. In fact, now is as good a time as any to install one.
I will be the first to admit my doofus gene can be pretty strong.

I have spent about 3 hours after I completely disassembled the pump sanding and polishing all the grooves and nicks that I could get out of all the flat surfaces. Yes there will still be some "marks" but it spins smoothly and freely without oil in it. With some 10/30 in it it feels silky smooth. So I will order 2 new belts and reinstall this pump and see what happens. If it fails, I am out nothing except some time. New pumps are over $900 so I can live with some unseen grooves.

I'll also drain the pan and see if I find anything else inside other than oil.

If things go right I am going back down to Mason Dixon next Sunday for the rescheduled Mopar event. Anyone else like to go along?

great too here you got a pass in, not so much on the pump jamming up. wondering if your considering a pre-filter? I can`t seem to find anyone recommending one or if it helps. good luck hope it all works next race.

I`m not sure either! saw those canister inline style but not sure if they can be run on the suction side??? only see them on the pressure line side.

I did see some for 12AN line which is what I am running on the suction side. I am just a little afraid of the restriction it may make? Not sure if anyone is running them on a single stage pump like ours.

Well, if you think about it, the factory pumps only have that pickup screen for protection. Ma Mopar thought that was good enough.

yes, that has been all that`s needed, just putting the question out there to see what works because this is my first attempt with an after market belt drive oil pump.

Two new drive belts (one spare) were waiting at my door when I got home from work. I mounted the pump and new belt with a guess and an eyeball of where the big gear was at on the shaft. Cranked the engine for about 10 seconds and looked at the belt and it stayed on. Flipped my oil pressure switch and fire it up!! You know what smiles mean, right? Yes all appears to be Ok with the pump. I set the oil pressure to about 60# at idle and left it run for about 2 minutes. Several revs up and down and it looks fine to me. My belt is running about an 1/8" towards the front of the pulley and I know that will bug me so I will take the belt off and loosen the set screws and move the pulley.

Before I started the engine I drained all the remaining engine oil and found nothing else in the pan. No metal, no shiny stuff, so that was good too. I did run a magnet into the drain whole until it hit the pick up and found nothing. So at this point I am really hoping it was just a stray wire from the inlet screen pick up that got loose and did the damage. My plans are to run it up to temperature and set the oil pressure to about 45-50 hot idling. That equals about 75# at WOT

All in all, I'm pretty happy. Still planning to head to Mason Dixon on Father's Day. Hoping for some hood air and a tail wind!!!
