I began the process of the engine & transmission swap this week. If it was only that I would be happy. But I am making a lot of changes and that all takes time. I am usually ready to race by now. I will be pushing it to have this done by Mason Dixon, but I'll try.

I did a test fit of the engine with the new mandrel and oil pump....etc to see if it all fit as I planned. It does and I have just about 3/4" between the radiator and bolt in the end of the crank.

I made a small support strut to stabilize my aluminum adapter. It also allows me to make a small adjustment to get the Gilmer belt running exactly true on the pulley.

looks great, never fit my lower blower pulley with out moving the rad!! haha. looking at your oil pump block plate, is the hole centered in the block cavity? looks off center, I put mine right on center so flow will separate evenly on raised cast in the cavity. might make no difference once pressure is on it.

Mine is over the left side main opening. I asked about this a while back and the thought was once it has the cavity filled it should not matter. Soon will tell!

I have the new engine all buttoned up. I got a new SFI solid flexplate from 440 source and redrilled the one offset hole. Got it mounted to the engine, lock ring in place, installed all the locking bolt hardware on the oil pan bolts, installed the alternator and oil pump belt one last time and installed it down in the bay. Made up the 12AN line with internal spring that runs from the pan to the pump. Probably on Monday I will have some help to install the transmission and get all the major stuff into place.

One question? I think I am going to need to go to the smaller aluminum master cylinder because on the Weber carbs. Does anyone know if any of the aluminum ones have the same connections as the 73-76 A body one that I am currently using? I don't mind bending new lines, but if I can purchase one that is more of a bolt in I would rather do that. Thanks!

Hey Rick, are you sure the aluminum ones (re: 79 Volare) will clear? Maybe you could make one of those 'offset M/C mounts' like were used on the Hemi cars.

I believe the lines are the same. If needed, I have always just gotten adapter fittings from the parts store to adapt lines to non-stock MCs.

The ones on the 79 Volare I had were the same as the ones on the earlier Master cylinders. I use the 76 Volare manual master cylinder on all my disk brake conversions (cast iron) and the brake lines from a 74 Valiant screw right into them. The 79 Volares, possibly 78's also, got the aluminum master cylinder with the plastic reservoirs (but they are 2 bolt mounting). How close are the carbs to the master cylinder?

I just went out and put the intake and the rear carb on the engine to see how close it will be. Actually I think I can run it as is. It is about 1 1/2" away and that is with the small velocity stack on the carb. I want to swap to the aluminum one sometime but with so many other things to do before I race that one will wait till later.

It is literally twice as thick as the factory style ones. I have always had trouble with the stock ones bolts coming loose in the convertor.
