when it rotates it deactivates the sense wire to my alternator

That is a VERY cool idea. Mind if I steal it?

How many amps are you running thru that little switch?

I don't know Ed. Maybe I should? It's not a Mopar alternator. It is like the small one wire alternators except it needs that "sense" wire to charge. The One wire alternators kill your battery after about 2 weeks of setting and I got tired of that. Lou knows what I have and may be able to shed some light on this alternator. I am electrically challenged. :D

Matt help yourself! I copy things from people all the time. I copied the alternator from Lou!!

That is just a wire to run the regulator. I would guess substantially less than an amp, but have never measured it.

My guess is you're looking at maybe a few hundredths in the 1/4 when you shut the field off, but I guess every little bit counts.

Lou

I'm looking for 5 hundredths! :D :D Also have my block off plates made for both sides of the valance. That may help another hundredth!! :D Pictures to follow!

Here is the final product on the micro switch.

I made aluminum panels for the valance and got them in place. I made them so the turn signal lens holds it in place with one other screw into the radiator support. This is not weatherproof of course but my car hasn't seen too much rain on the drag strip! :D :D Fits nice and tight and looks like it belongs. Hardly notice them. I will probably put something under the valance over the winter to try and keep some more turbulence out from under the car.

The car ran flawless this past weekend ,but the driver had some issues as normal. :D :D

I was happy to break into the 12's and also run 100 mph+. I was pretty sure it would run that fast since it ran an 8.15 the day before in the 1/8th mile. There is still some more tuning to do and I'm pretty sure I can drop it into the 12.70-80 range without too much trouble.

If a fellar is going to try for championship he almost surely has to have a record in his pocket. While looking at the records, I think I could probably go for a nitrous record but I really don't want to take off my Webers. There is an old 1/8 mile record belonging to Gary Bruner I may be able to aim for if I lose a 100# of weight and puts some 4.88 gears in the car! :D :D ( Anyone got a pumpkin I can borrow for a weekend next year!!) Maybe it will encourage Gary to get his Valiant back together! :D

I'm starting by getting rid of my 10 gallon gas tank. New aluminum 5 gallon one will be here on Saturday. Carrying 4 gallon of gas as compared to 10 will lose me some weight right off the start. More to come!!

Maybe both! But I'd be pretty skinny at 6'1" and 120# . :D :D

Very true... I guess it will be the car then!

Maybe you could remove the hood?

Light weight fiberglass some day when I find the money tree. :D :D

I am going to get a lightweight aluminum master cylinder. Would you guys recommend the 15/16" or the 1 1/16" one for the race car? Thanks

I'm taking delivery of a set of 4.86 gears for a 742 case Saturday. If you're serious PM me and we'll work something out.
