There's the official write-up. Now that we're automatically up-classed into Class B at our next race, the judges are giving us a little more room in the "$500" budget to get the car faster so we might actually be able to compete with a field of clapped-out Hondas on a road course. There are a lot of wild ideas being circulated. We need to fix the transmission first, though.

I also need to get the head refinished. I think the reason we blew a head gasket was the rough machined surface on the head when I got it back from getting decked at the machine shop. Didn't think much of it at the time, but now I know better.

A quick question to SpaceFrank, what is the story on the outside tubing all over the winning 300ZX? I mean, I remember Smokey Yunick's tricks with the very large diameter fuel pipe running zig-zag under the car to eliminate the effects of the introduction of standard fuel tank size, but this...? :?:

Olaf,

The tubing is part of decorating the car to look like the DeLorean from the movie Back to the Future.

OK, that's it. Mike and I have decided we need to build one! (In sweltering evening heat at track side after a few frothy adult beverages)

We'll get Bobby to provide a spent Volvo, I'll provide the slant six, Mike will help me with the easy stuff like installation, we'll get DusterIdiot to keep track of the numbers and manage the project. Josh is our lead driver! He can train the rest of us to use the wheel thingie in front of the tachometer. (The thing that makes the car change directions as I understand.). Scary. Not sure we can do this sort of racing, but have confidence we can learn it in a few short years!

Looks like a good plan here on the thread! What's our limit? $500 minus safety stuff? Cake!

Bobby, we need a Volvo 240 for $50 or less. Can do? :D

This form of racing looks like a hoot! (As per our PM and CEO.)

Huge congrats, Frank! Well deserved - great car and a dedicated team.

Hope we meet again at a LeMons race. Our team is planning for Sept 19 at CMP.

Best wishes and enjoy the Slanted moment,

Lou

DI, it looks like the next race is about 3 hours north of you in Shelton, WA. $30 buys you an all-weekend paddock pass so you can see all the wonderful hoopties up close.

Ceej, the thing to know about the $500 limit is that they won't actually ask to see any of your receipts if you show up with a slant-powered Volvo 240. I'm not saying throw a 4-barrel on it, but maybe freshen the block and transmission up as long as you leave the outside looking grungy and play real dumb at inspection. You get much higher lap counts by not breaking down than you do by being fast.

Lou, if my finances work out, I may be arrive & driving at the fall CMP race. I've been meaning to get back to that track and see the town square inspection ceremony, but I don't think the team at large is going to be able to afford another road trip this year.

I will be wheeling a Duster at the LeMons NorWorst GP July 11-12. It's no slant six car, but it will be alright. I'm Not proud, my first LeMons race was in a Ford Ranger.
