No. Clay City is probably the best bet....maybe Bristol. If you go to my website you can enlarge the picture and see it better.

Hi tom, have you used pump gas in the past with any success and with how much boost and timing. I have run a mix of supreme and av gas on my 30 over motor with 5lbs of boost and 10.5 com 25 deg timing with a 12.44 et .My 80 over motor with 5lbs, 8.5 com, 25 deg and .028 more lift and 16 deg duration cam only went 12.30. I am putting a bigger blower on and was wondering what octane and compress did you with gas.thanks. :?: :?

Terry,

I know for sure that the Simca runs alcohol, and they set up the comp for close to 9:1, or a little lower.

25 deg is probably too much timing for a boosted motor. I just visited Cameron Tilley in Australia, running 17lbs boost on his Slant. Comp is around 8.5:1. Runs 24 deg total mech advance and pulls back to the teens as the boost comes on.

Charlie S runs fixed 20 deg timing on his Cuda and has used a BTM to pull out more at higher boost.

We'll see what other wisdom Tom will impart...

Hope this helps,

Lou

Hi Terry,
Lou is correct, we run methanol and have never run gas with boost. Our timing curve is very different. We are able to run more timing than a gas motor could without any ill effects.

My suggection would be run around 8 to 8.5:1. 10.5:1 is probably max I would consider. From our experience the lower comp and more boost runs faster than higher comp. and lower boost. Also remember than blowers and turbos respond a little different in respects to comp. and cams. Our experience is with a turbo only.

What kind of cam are you running?

Tom

thanks tom and lou, my cam is a comp 255 at .050 / .556 lift / 108 sep. this is the first year with the 4-71 I am hopeing with more volume than 4-53 blower and 1-1 drive to get above 5lbs of boost,my only concern is if my fuel octane and timing are close. The 4-53 blower combination worked great with 1.64 60ft / 12.30et /109mph.and no mechical problems.

Just a quick update - We should be cranking the old girl up in the next day or so. Since we have a family trip planned this weekend it means if she makes Clay city it will be with low boost but at least she will be there!

Schweeet! Are you gonna nickname that thing "The Phoenix"? Out of the ashes comes the Simca....

That's great Tom.

You must be a mind reader. Dad and I were talking about putting that across the back and seeing how many people got it!

That's funny! Even the paint scheme you were running works for the "Phoenix" theme. Cool idea. I'm glad WE thought of it.

I'll be watching for the Clay City results.

So Tom, what does it look like for Wilksboro? Will the "Phoenix" Simca rise again? Or are ya keepin' it a secret 'til ya get there?

SHES BACK!

Finally got out to the track this weekend. It was rained out on Friday but we did get two practice runs on Sat before it started raining.

3/4 throttle - letting up at the 330 mark it ran a 7.19 and a 7.25. The 60'were 1.525 and a 1.518. It is leaving the line at 2000 rpms but really takes off at the 60' mark.

If the weather holds and we can hit Thursday night practice at Mooresville we should be good to go..... Maybe running mid 6's.

Tom

PS - Man it felt good!

Made 4 runs Saturday at NW.

Two runs were 6.41 and one was a 6.42. The four run was a 6.52 but I let up on it becuase it was bouncing around a little too much about 3/4 track. I gues I got set up in the groove a little to one side and the lane was a little rougher.

But she back and ready to go.
