I drove up to Bedford, IN last night and picked up my engine from Howard Davis!

We even shrink wrapped it for the drive home.

I’m back from my class in Florida and not limping around too bad. I need to make sure the Duster is ready for Wilkesboro, but then I’ll start focusing on the Challenger.

I need to swap the intake gasket to a thicker one to avoid some header/oil pan contact Howard noticed as we were loading it up. Then it’s just bolting things together (plus a couple hundred other things I’m sure. )

I pulled the intake/exhaust off the engine, dimpled one header tube to clear the oil pan and port matched my last Cox Brothers intake gasket to the Davis head.
Now I can put it back together and get it back into the Challenger. :D

I chased all of the threads on the intake/exhaust manifold studs.

They weren’t fast, but they were stubborn!
I think Howard must have coated them with anti-seize or something. I’ll ask him.

Yes, I caught them all.

Good idea. It sure helps with assembly to be able to run the nuts up by hand. Also I run the threads on the torque converter to get the old loc-tite out. It helps a lot too.

I got the intake/exhaust remounted.

I was getting things moved around to drop the engine in and said to myself, “Self. It might be nice to have them fenders off fer this.”

Then Self said, “That’s a right fine idear. It’s only 4 bolts & a few rivets.”

Good night Gracie! :D

Forum won’t let me add photos. Pics to follow.

Sprayed a little touch up paint on the chassis before the engine install. Heading to the lake now. No skiing for me. Torn ACL from my last adventure. Paint should be dry by the time I’m ready to wheel the engine over.

I took it easy today. No skiing and only one crazy bonsai solo jaunt on the jet ski.

Not feeling like hitting the garage now though. Maybe just a little clean up...

I did that tonight. I cleaned up the ARP bolts and the holes in the crank and converter. There is one bolt hole in the converter I’m not real happy with, but not unhappy enough not to proceed. I only spent about an hour in the garage tonight. I thought about mounting the SFI flexplate tonight, but the wooden stand we made is in the way. I would have to spend too much time moving things around. Another night.

I should look over the Duster before Knoxville this weekend...
