I was going to put the engine in the Challenger last night... Howard must have a sixth sense... He called and suggested I replace the front seal in the tranny before I put the engine in.

I replaced the front tranny seal and got the engine off the wooden stand tonight.

Even a little progress is still progress.

Pics or it didn’t happen. :D

I had to work on the old seal a bit to get it out. It was loc-tited in there...

I decided to install the nice clean flexplate bolts too. I started using the risky method of holding things still with a pry bar between opposing bolts...

That didn't work out so well, so I used a better method for the remaining bolts.

Next week I'll get the engine installed. :D

I sure hope that's the old seal, and not the new one.

I’m determined to do something on the Challenger every day. This was a good day. Mike helped! :D

Tonight I got the four torque converter bolts put in with red loc-tite.

Tons and tons to do to be ready for Clay City.

How do you torque them without the engine or convertor spinning?

The converter to flexplate bolts aren’t as tight as the flexplate to crank bolts. I didn’t have any problems with the engine trying to turn.

On the flexplate to crank bolts I used a flat piece of aluminum bolted across the flexplate shown in the pic right AFTER the bloody finger.

Tonight I resealed the Motor plate to the block. I had to remove it to get the engine in.

Then I fiddled around and finally figured out how Norm had the throttle linkage mounted and got that reinstalled.

Then I finally took a few minutes and actually sat in the driver’s seat to get a feel for where all the gauges and switches and bamboozler things are. I’ve had the car for 6 years and 11 months and had never done that. Yeah,... I made car noises too...
