Started the motor yesterday. This is the OE '68 engine that I raced in 2018. The car / FI system has a complete re wire I wanted to get everything back to where I know an engine
would start prior to putting in a fresh slant. The AF gauge is showing full lean as I did not have a set of gaskets to put in at the header collector / extension and that is real close to the
AF sensor. I am picking up carpet, fiberglass hood , body plugs and other misc parts at the Indy Cylinder Head swap meet next weekend, the car is getting closer,,,

an update on the '68 Barracuda

working it into a car that I can drive to the strip / autocross have fun and drive back.
I have re installed an interior, added sound insulation, AC, nice radio, comfy seats, so there will be new challenges when it comes to racing.

Concerning racing,, I have upgraded the 904 shifter, finishing the assembly of what I call my HI HP NA motor: light weight block and crank, big valves, thoroughly ported head, mid 10's static compression, tuned MPFI,, I don't think that I can off set all the weight that I added to the car, but I will try to get some of it covered.

Drove it out of the garage today. I still have the OE 68 motor in the car that I ran when I raced it in 2018. Then it was tuned well enough to: start cold or hot, idle to the start line, run down the strip at full throttle, and that is about it. I am working to get it properly tuned to do all that stuff mentioned as well as have mid throttle response and respectable idle to 2000 RPM ability so that it is somewhat ready when the HI HP NA motor is installed and started for the first time.

Sounds like wonderful progress, John. You are thinking about all the right issues. Weight is the enemy, but there is something to be said for comfort sometimes. What seats are those?

All the best,
Lou

Thanks for the info. I looked at those but decided on the Procar Rally 1000 for the 62 Valiant. Seems like a well built seat and works well with the harness bar in this car.

Happy Slanting,

Lou

Is it possible that I started building this motor in April of 2018?

Believe it or not, the Slant that I call HiNA is complete and ready to go into the 68 Barracuda.
It has been slightly detuned from an all out NA drag motor to what will be a real nice street motor that
retains a good power and torque curve for drag racing.

I plan to start removing the existing motor from the 68 B tomorrow, there is some wire routing changes and detailing
that I want to do while the engine compartment is empty. I will do that mid next week.
I should be installing the HiNA motor by next weekend.
